Astell & Kern Junior (AK Jr.) Impressions Thread

Any noticeable difference or improvement in sound?

Ok AK70 sounds a lot better than AK Jr. Maybe it's the Cirrus Logic DAC rather than the Wolfson one as in the AK Jr. The sound is much more detailed, and bass/sub-bass is improved as well. Overall sounds cleaner and more neutral as well, while also adding a tinge of smoothness to it.

And the UI is absolutely to die for in the AK70.

I highly reccomend all AK Jr users to upgrade to AK70 if you can afford it. And you can sync playlists from Itunes to AK70 as well as it uses m3u format.

My only issues are basically importing my AK Jr playlists to AK70.

I want to basically import my AK Jr playlists to my AK70. I know that's impossible as AK Jr uses PLS while AK70 uses M3U. So I tried making a playlist manually on the AK70, adding a few songs onto it using the AK70, and copying that to my computer. Then I text edited the file and copied it back to the AK70...and on the AK70 it basically says it has "0 songs". And when I copied that file (on my AK70) back to my computer, and opened it up with Notepad...it was blank.

So is it impossible to text edit the m3u playlists on AK70? Do you have to do it by hand on the actual AK70 device? Not sure if anyone can answer here...

Oh and AK70 also has a very good gapless play function. It has like maybe 0.5 ms gap between songs.

And the UI for playlists is greatly improved too. You don't see file names anymore but instead you see the song name along with the album art. It's awesome frankly.

Battery life on AK70 is better than AK Jr as well.

Hi guys,
can you please give me an advice?
I am looking for my new and first combo. What do you think will be the best in terms of sound quality and perfect match (DAP + IEM):
I can have the AK Jr. for a really good sale price (279 Euro with internal memory 64GB), DX80 without internal memory (340 Euro + Micro SD +-30 Euro), ATH-IM03 (249 Euro). So what do you think will be the best pairing:
AK Jr. + ATH-IM03 (I dont know if it is good for ATH-IM03, cause AK Jr. have slightly warm sound signature)
DX80 + ATH-IM03 (stated as very well combo)
or other combo. I have 600 Euro budget.
Thank you very much.

AK jr seems to have had a price drop down to £299 on amazon now.  Worth it at that point or avoid because of the lag (no idea if gapless works or not)?

I can buy it for 279 Euro, that is cca. 225 pounds and i saw on forum that with new firmware 1.03 there is no lag, but sound signature is warmer, so I dont know, if it is a good idea to pair it with ATH-IM03. I wish I could try this combo before buy, but it is not possible

if your ONLY concern is sound quality and portablity, then go ahead and buy it.

if you care about UI at all, then just get the AK70 instead. And no gapless does not work.

Just realized the gapless feature actually works seamlessly in AK70. AK Jr not so much...
