The software/firmware is set in stone with version 1.03. It hasn’t been updated or changed in years.
my suggestion to limit lag and buggy problems with the UI just don’t exceed the 64 Gig memory card.

ive had my player now for nearly 6 years.
Still works like a champ and the battery life is decent. I get 4 hrs still.
Mine will play about 6-7 hrs w/o any turn-on of the screen, or changing songs -- just straight-on playing tunes w/ its (poor) shuffling. Those are the days when I forget to switch on the wall-wart (or I take it on the road to play in the car while on road trips.)

I wonder if anyone on this thread (or forum) has ever used any of the higher-end A&K players, and if so, does more $ buy you better shuffling (shuffling thru the ENTIRE library, not just a small part of it) or auto-leveling? These really are my only 2 beefs with the Junior. I keep reminding myself this is "ONLY" a $600 DAP; A&K makes models selling for well over $3K !

Hi everyone. I've just found Ak Jr on the attic after 3 years. And I was totally impressed with it's sound. It's so balanced.
So, maybe, someone will help me to choose Ak dap which sound signature is closer to Ak Jr, but with modern Ui.

If you're impressed with the sound then do you need a different A&K DAP? Yes, the GUI is clunky when you go into what I call "song" mode where you use button presses like a mouse. It's laggy doing this and that's one issue. However, I use the file mode and have no issues at all. I've got all my music digitally stored on a couple of external HDDs and these are stored as file folders. It's so simple to drag and drop these into the Jr. Even better, do that to a micro SD card on your computer and then insert it into your A&K Jr. Using the buttons avoids using the touch screen but this may not be suitable for you. I was lucky and got a version that was a 'Junior' special (Junior being a Kpop band) I got this for around $AUS200 - a bargain considering the sound quality.

Is Jr still decent player these days? I have JH Angie V1, and was thinking about buying this in mint condition for fairish price locally.
The sound quality and physical build quality are still fantastic. But I'd say that the operating system is just a little bit dated and sluggish by modern standards.

Of all the A&K players it's definitely the easiest to drop in your pocket and go.

You’re exactly right. :)
The sound quality is everything on the JR where as everything else is bare bones.

I can't see a reason to replace mine. It works beautifully for me, the sound quality is what you'd expect from A&K. I'd jump on this if I were you.
I’ve had mine for 7 years now. Works perfect. I use the Campfire ATLAS’s with them and haven’t felt a need to upgrade.
Great sound. Extremely low bulk. Absolutely perfect for travel.
I never use headphones on the road anymore. :)

I've had mine for about 5 years. Bought it barely-used. A lot to like about it. Looks and sound quality are tops. I have mine plugged in with a wall-wart power supply, so battery life isn't an issue. Biggest drawbacks for me are small playing-cache size, and lack of auto-leveling. Previously I'd used a lowly Sansa Clip, which DID "see" all the tracks in memory and WOULD play with auto-leveling -- but definitely poorer sound.

Hello! Does anyone have detailed measurements or other info about this dap like power output (@16-32 ohm), battery capacity (mha), output impedance (ohm@32ohm load), recommended driver load value (range in ohms)? What is a good iem pairing with it? Also, I’ve seen listing for this dap with 32GB rather than 64GB? Idk if it’s specific to demo/display units or smth…
