Hello Jason, regarding the balanced output on the MkII:
The background on my AK70 is dead silence even with my most sensitive items. Being a much powerful balanced output on the MKII, will it change the background quality?
Thanks!
No problems at all with the increased power output. Even with the more powerful output, you will experience the same low noise floor as the AK70.

Nice output increase, I do wish their was a second SD slot (hard to keep the body shape, I get it :disappointed_relieved: ), but c'mon now $400 for a external CD ripper-does it come with a hard drive for media storage???

Love the dual dacs, might update my ak70

I would have loved a second SD slot as well, oh well. I think I can finally settle for a single slot device now that the 400GB cards are on the market however. Currently, I use a 256 and a 200 in my X5iii, but the 200 is no where near filled to capacity so I'm pretty sure I can fit everything on a 400 and still have some space until the 512. I'll probably get a 400gb card and see if it will work for me, and if so, I'll be selling my X5iii for this depending on battery life.

Speaking of which, what's the projected battery life?

Also, since I've never used (hell, I've never even seen an AK in person) can you sort music by Artist, then Albums by the release year? This is why I like the full Android experience of the X5iii which lets me use Neutron to have that ability since Fiio's app doesn't do that either, grr.

Very interested in this as possibly my first AK DAP (not my first iRiver I had the CD player that played MP3s from CD rom like 20 years ago, damn I'm old! That thing was really nice, the way it would store data in a cache to keep from having to spin the CD all the time was so neat! Now, get off my lawn! haha)

@JasonNYC Hello Jason, it seems like the USB DAC feature supports only up to 24/96 stream... Is it going to support up to 192 kHz and/or get an ASIO driver in the future? It seems rather surprising to me for such a device as a lot of lower end players support this.

After receiving a recommendation....and doing a little reading I'm considering the AK70 MK II as my first maybe last DAP...though unsure if I'll pair with a Chord Mojo....anyone know if the expandable storage currently limited to 256GB SD will be extended to the new 512GB SD cards in the near future?

Be careful not to mistake SD as being microSD. Most DAPs (including the AK70 Mkii being discussed here) utilise microSD.

With that clarified, one can look at the microSD cards currently available and see that Sandisk have recently released a 400gb microSD card - it's not cheap ($300), but, in comparison to previous high-capacity memory card releases, it's not insanely out of reach.

There are some DAPs (such as Cowon's Plenue D) that struggle with very high capacity microSD cards because their firmware can't handle too many thousands of songs (iirc, the Plenue D gets a bit erratic with greater than 8000 tracks, but that may have been improved now).

Someone from AK would be better-placed than I to tell you if the AK DAPs have any similar limitations, but I suspect that the AK70 Mkii will probably handle one of the new 400gb microSD cards without problems, especially if it's filled with high-res files rather than smaller mp3s (because 2 or 3 times as many mp3 files can be loaded onto a given capacity of card than larger high-res files).

Technically all of our players should support up to 2TB SDXC microSD cards when they are eventually released. We are currently testing the new Sandisk 400GB microSD cards released a few weeks ago and will make a formal announcement for official support soon. So far, no issues with testing on any of our players.

@Albator75000 confirming USB DAC support numbers. I will get back to you.

@JasonNYC, I just read that AK 70 Mk II comes with a case if pre-ordered in Japan. Do you have a similar promotion here in US?

One thing I don't like about AK players is the size of the buttons I wish they would make them bigger.

Sony really knows how to make side buttons so that they fit right into your hand.
