Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000T

I do not own the device, but maybe enabling DAR could help? Have you tried it?
I mean if they oversample why not to apply EQ on this stage.
Yes, but it changes nothing. It looks like DAR upsamples PCM to DSD, but as the source is already DSD 256, I highly doubt the source will be upsampled. Anyways, I could not hear a difference unfortunately.

Just started testing A&K SP3000T and this is my first encounter with A&K DAP.

The reason I started my hunt for perfect DAP was that I've got fed up with Chord Mojo 2 + Poly. Poly is a stream of problems and works perfectly out of the box (assuming you will downgrade your wifi network setup correctly) only with Roon from my expirence.

While Mojo 2 is a great small dac/amp combo I still prefer the original one and while you can tune 2 to be mimic sound signature of its predecessor using brilliant DSP the UI is questionable. I always need a manual to achieve what I want.

At the same time I prefer Rockna Wavelight to TT2 and I wanted to have something that would be at worst case transportable and would provide me with same or similar: smooth, relaxed, airy but closer to analog than digital.

The choice for A&K SP3000T was because of tube and hybrid mode.

So far the optimal settings for me are: hybrid mode (4), low tube current, DAR disabled.

I've tried so far DAR with PCM and DSD upsampling but in hybrid and tube mode is does not sound right to me, it can improve some tracks on solid state mode.

So far I like both the UI and sound. Paired it with Focal Stellia and Meze Advar. Both HPs provide fabulous synergy with SP3kT. I'm looking forward to test it with Meze Empyreans during weekend.

Wish I could ge SE300 for a demo but it does not seem to be possible atm unfortunately:frowning2:

If you guys have some tips for new user any advise is more than welcome :)

I’m suddenly having an issue with my 3000T. Sometimes when I connect my headphones the volume shows 150 and no sound comes out. If I remove the 3.5 jack and re-insert the sound comes back. Doesn’t happen with 4.4 or 2.5.

I’m guessing there is some sort of connection issue. Is this something that can be easily fixed or covered by warranty? @JasonNYC The player is only a month or so old.

Do you have Line Out enabled by chance? Does the issue occur when playing a certain type of file, like FLAC or DSD or any file? Does it occur with streaming or playing tracks stored in internal memory or microSD card? Amp mode where it occurs?

Two days ago I listened to the album recording: Baroque Violin Sonatas (Biber, Schmelzer, Kindermann, Böddecker) with violinist Elfa Rún Kristinsdóttir in FLAC 24/192 format + crossfeed on the FiiO R9 player (in the NEUTRON program in bitperfect mode) with AUDEZE MM500 headphones (balanced silver cable). The recording amazed me so much with the quality of performance, and its beauty, and the quality of the recording, that yesterday I decided to listen again on 3KT in tube mode (level 2) + crossfeed with Monarch 3. Surely I will hear even more interesting things - I thought. But while listening I became more and more convinced that the music sounds absolutely the same, absolutely no noticeable difference (for me!!!). In twenty-five years of listening to music on headphones every day (often for several hours), this has never happened to me before. "This is my limit" - I thought, there is no point in looking for and buying something else, it cannot be better anyway. R9 + AUDEZE MM500 stationary at home and AK 3KT + Monarch 3 for travel. Maybe if I changed the player and headphones several times for comparison with each melody, I would hear some minimal difference? Most likely, yes. But from ont day to another the sensations of sound quality and the general sensations from listening were absolutely the same. And we listen to music precisely for these sensations. Or for something else? I am writing this to make my point clearer.
This is quite a beautiful statement of attaining a sound ideal in one's head. I'm chasing after a sound rn, comparing headphones.. one offers this strength but compromises on that, but it sounds like you've hit the ceiling on what your ears/ brain are telling you is live or real.. or pleasing. Also, your listening sounds extensive enough to perhaps allow you some significant ear 'burn-in,' where you are used to the sound of your audeze combo and the other matches that rather than requires you to get used to or 'burn in' another set of compromises or sound ideal

I don't understand what all this talk is about. The manufacturer says that this is normal. I don't care what happens to the device in tube mode on level 3 when walking down the street, because I will never do that. If you want to listen in tube mode while moving, then you have to wait a couple of years, such a device may appear. In the meantime, either give up moving in tube mode or put up with this interference, or return the player. There are no other options. Before buying, in my opinion, you should first carefully read the "User's Guide" from the manufacturer, especially those parts that directly relate to our way of using the device. On page 41 (where it talks about listening specifically in tube mode) it is highlighted in bold:
Due to the nature of vacuum tubes, microphonics can occur with even small shocks, which is not a problem with the product.
Please be careful in handling as vacuum tubes can be damaged by tapping or strong impacts.

This is practically a polite warning: moving (or relocating) the device while listening in tube mode is prohibited.
hmmm.. so this is a DAP that is non-portable or rather non-portable-listening. funny, I guess I assumed a 'portable' unit would be moveable but good fr you to read closely! That said, I spend hours on my bike and walking with hybrid mode!

my 3000T has been saying 'scanning media' since I loaded a 1.5TB SD card (with 1.3TB of files on it) a few weeks back and the 'system reset' options to initiate a fresh media scan is greyed out, as is the 'eject sd card' which I can't do. I noticed the albums loading over several days but I figure that was slow and it surely would be complete by now.

I answered your post in the SP3000M thread also.

Not normal. The first time you insert a card, it will do a media scan which can take some time. When you turn the player on each time, it will do a short scan to look for any changes. Are you saying it constantly scans all the time when you have the player turned on?

Two possibilities that can cause the media scan to hang:

1. Card is formatted in a different file format other than FAT32, such as ExFAT or NTFS.

2. There is a corrupt file or unsupported file format such as an MP4 file, which will cause the player to continuously scan the card, trying to index it.

yep, it was ex-fat format and, though it was playing and accessing files fine, was stuck on scanning I suppose. I re-formatted to FAT32 and it scanned in like 10 minutes haha!

First the player worked flawlessly with my 256gb sd card, read it immidiatly. Today after boot it had few errors and stopped reading it. My Lp6ti reads it without issues so its not the sdcard that died.

Trying to use another 512gb sandisk sdcard with SP3000. My Lp6ti reads it in 30sec (and doenst need to reread it on each boot btw). SP3000T wouldnt read it when I inserted it. When I pressed on refresh library or something it went into a loop where the Astell&Kern logo is being gradually lit up, then it shows the usual start up logo and wents back into the loop. Doing that for past 15 min now.

edit: it finally booted after 30 min but still cant see the sdcard. Cant read the 256gb nor the 512.

Any suggetions? :D

Is it formatted in exFAT?

I have two Astell&Kern players - SR25 with a 1TB Sandisk microSD and SP3000T with a 1.5TB Sandisk. Both are formatted in exFAT and are filled to the brim. They work flawlessly, one for 1 year (SR25) the other for 4 months (SP3000T). Maybe you should try exFAT (with the smaller one) and if it doesn't work, then there's something wrong with the player.
