Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000T

Per my post on August 30, there is a battery protection mode being added in the next firmware update coming around mid-September that will provide this feature.
This is the most wonderful news, in my opinion, because it takes the SP3000T to an even higher level. To be able to connect the player to the power supply and listen to high-resolution music (DSD128/256, FLAC 24/192) in tube mode (at level 3) and not constantly look at the battery to see how many more 10-15 minutes it will last... This is simply awesome.

But most importantly, it eliminates any worries about battery life (as if I had any before), because it doesn't matter how much of the battery's original capacity is left (it could be almost dead), you can always plug the player into a socket and listen to music as much as you like.

The sp3000t always drains more battery than it can be charged so even if the desktop mode is implemented, I can get at most 7-8 hrs out of it before the battery completely drained.

I don't know if the translation is correct here, but I understand that in desktop mode the device is connected to a data source that also supplies power.
However, I have noticed that under certain circumstances the battery level drops slightly even when the device is supplied with power. However, the battery has never run out, even when it was necessary to connect the device to the computer for several hours to copy data.
Regarding the battery in general, I think it would have been good to install a stronger one, unfortunately the device does not reach the maximum running time specified by the manufacturer under any circumstances.

Sorry if I am not specific enough in my last post. To elaborate, when the SP3000T is utilized as a USB DAC and connected to a PC via a USB cable, it receives both data and power through this connection. However, it appears that the power supplied is insufficient to simultaneously charge the battery causing it to drain even when connect to the PC.

I don't know if it cause by the charging protocol that SP3000T implemented or the tube simply using too much power in the first place, but hopefully it will get fix soon.

No, I think you've already mentioned it correctly

I myself work with a MacBookPro, whose USB ports supply enough power in addition to data so that the battery of the AK doesn't run out.

With PCs, I've already noticed that on some models, not all ports supply enough power. If your device has multiple ports, you need to test which of the ports supplies power and which perhaps only data

Yes, it does. With Flac 16/44 in OP mode without any additional functions and internet I can reach 10 h.

Listening to the SP3000T through the HAA Resolute using the EarSonics SEM9, using hybrid mode '3' volume @ 34. The sound is beautiful, have never heard such a sound from the SEM9. The sound image is clear, contoured, and the sound stage much more 3-D with apparent depth and a sense of presence. The sound is detailed and has accurate timbre in each note reproduced, can experience the emotive contrast between stillness and motion, yes - very good dynamics, Very very satisfying .. all in all, the degree of realism is fantastic!

I'm sorry, but something seems to be wrong with my device. I fully charged it two days ago and haven't used it since. When I started using it today, it showed 97% charge, so it had lost about 3% of its charge in two days without being used.

But that's not the worst part, within just 15 minutes of use it lost another 10% of its charge while playing only 16/44 files, very quietly and in tube mode, you can literally see the battery level going down - that can't be right!

I'll probably return the device.

Hello, I've already had this problem. You must empty the battery until the device completely sturns off then charge the battery to 100% and keep the charge at 100% for at least 1 hour. Normally you will reset the normal battery capacity. You may have to do it a second time. If it doesn't work then return the device.

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately the return period would have expired today, so I had to make a decision and I sent it back, the risk that something might be wrong was too high for me.
However, I am not familiar with this kind of behavior and I think the battery should be calibrated in such a way that the customer does not have a problem with it.
I now have to wait and see how the seller reacts and cannot yet say whether I will give the device another chance.

I don't know man, I just listened to 60 minutes of Mozart (violin concertos 1 and 2 by Isabella Steinbacher) in the highest possible resolution (master) - DSD256, in tube mode medium (sound volume 75 !!!) and the charge dropped by 22%. That means at least 4 hours of music in the highest possible resolution, the best sound quality in the world (probably) in tube mode. At the beginning, after a full charge after a day or two of not working, when turned on, my player showed a charge lower by 15-20 percent, just like that. I thought something was wrong with it. But after several cycles of full charge and discharge, everything changed. Maybe you should give it a try again.

Thanks but no, I find the behavior strange and I have had many devices with built-in batteries, including an AK, but I had never experienced such behavior until yesterday. Two days off and 3% battery power lost and then within a quarter of an hour when playing 16/44 files, 10% power loss.
What was also strange was that the battery was completely empty when I received it, but most devices are pre-charged at 70% to 80%, presumably already calibrated. If it wasn't a defect, it can't be the customer's responsibility and if it was, then it should at least be described in the instructions.

Incidentally, the dealer contacted me after receiving the goods back and he too had already had a complaint about this behavior and the customer also returned his device.

I will probably stick with my FiiO 11 Plus for the time being, this device is certainly not comparable to the AK but it works perfectly and has no abnormalities.

Hi everyone 👋🏽
I am new to the hobby and having never had a HiRes DAP before, I have short-listed Sp3000t, Cayin N8ii, Hiby R8ii and Sony WM1ZM2. Could anyone (who has listened to some or all of them) please tell me which one would be a better pick in terms of sound quality? Or is that way too a subjective question? Cheers
