Hi,

Anybody had the opportunity to compare any of the ASL head amps with the Mapletree Ear+? I'd like to get something in the $400-600 range that will do double duty as a headphone amp and a line stage for a second system (so I'm considering the OTL32). I've scanned the archives and gotten a feel for both, but I haven't seen that anyone's actually a/b'd units from ASL and MAD.

Headphones will most likely be Alesandro MS1's for the moment, so I suspect the MAD may be the better choice. But if someone's actually had the chance to compare units, especially if they've heard how the linestage sounds on either, I'd greatly appreciate hearing their opinions.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers,
Mike

I have. I prefer the Ear+ with Grados, and the MG Head OTL with Senns. One setup rocks, the other rolls. Once you know what kind of "attitude" you're looking for in headphone audio, the choice is easy. Take yer pick.

FYI, the MG Head OTL doesn't provide linestage function.

You could also consider the amps from Single Power.
The MPX3, CPX3 and PPX3 are in your budget. You could check all the positive reviews from Hirsch, Tuberoller, FCJ and Highwaystar...etc.
Happy Listening.

I'm pretty sure that the OTL32 does indeed handle low impedance cans; and that is the model Mike said he was considering.

And according to the Divergent website the OTL32 can also act as preamplifier.

The ASL OTL32 sounds great with the Sony CD-3000 (low impedance)
