ASL HB1 Tube Headamp

I love my ASL MG Head OTL III. This little ASL has been out a while, but I have never heard it. I'm not wild about hybrid designs myself, but I do really like the ASL all-tube amp I have. This could be quite a nice amp.

The tube looks like an EL34 to me which would not be a surprise, since that is the tube used by MG Head OTL at the output.

And yes Skylab, the MG Head OTL is a lovely amp, I heard it on numerous occasions. It is that exact reason that I am wondering about this amp, since it has potential to be an interesting bang for the buck machine...as is the upcoming Darkvoice.

mmm... Interesting,

The Audio Advisor has the more specs than i've previously seen, i.e.: the tubes are 6BQ5 x 2. Please tell me thats the same as the more common EL34? (This would be my first foray into the world of tubes, so I wouldn't want to be stuck unable to tube roll.) But i'm really diggin' the price, and it would be used with low impedance headphones too!

6Bq5's are the same as EL84's which I believe are pretty common? I once had a jolida integrated amp that used those. However since it can't really drive high impedance headphones I guess this is off my list.

Yes, 6BQ5's and EL84's are the same tube, and while they are certainly plentiful, NOS/used versions tend to be pretty pricey, meaning the affordable tubes will be new East-European/Russian.

I use some used Amperex tubes in my ASL MG Head, and they sound FANTASTIC.
