With that budget you are looking at the 32/250ohm since 600ohm can only be Custom ordered through Beyer's Website and the are $450+ depending on options.

The 600 do need a good amp to drive them properly no doubt about it.

What type of a system are you trying to use it with?

Portable you could go 32ohm easy to push! even unamped

250 really should have an amp to sound proper but can be used with smaller portable amps as well.

600 very tough to push with a portable amp, more a home can for sure.

That said I never heard a 32ohm ver but the 250 and 600 are pretty close.

The 600 is less harsh, little more clarity and details.

Keep in mind this is based on DT880's 600ohm I have not yet recieved my DT990 600ohm. But soon.

I have heard from others that this is the case with the 990 as well

The "Pro" versions of dt990 are only supposed to be available @ 250Ω, with coiled cabling........and still the without changes from the 2003 version. If you want the best-sounding available version, you really want the 2005 600 ohm version from the consumer line. There is a big BUT to this recommendation - you will need a good solid strong amp............I've been using a Corda Prehead MkII with mine - and there are times I wish for a bit more. A primary value to getting this version is the smoothness of the treble........there are recordings where the 250 ohm version where the treble becomes too much and you want to use the alternative 120ohm outlet on the Cordas, or turn down the volume a bit for the entire recording (Star Wars would be an example). ..........on the other hand, the flip side to all this is you would be buying one of the fines headphones on the current market.
Another note - generally, the 32 ohm and 600 ohm versions are only available thru the Beyerdynamic Manufacture page (tho' it is said there are one or two dealers in either Singapore, or H.K. (Jan Meier used to have a stock of 32 ohm version - but not any longer).

In terms of running dt880/600 - My experience differs from Trose49 above. It seems amazing, but true - the Xin Supermacro LE does a very nice job running those particular 'phones. It is only a comment about this particular pairing and not other models or manufacturers. Plenty of headroom, and never any clipping.

after reading reviews i think i'm gonna get DT990, NOT DT990Pro, because i read that DT990 is for consumer use, than Pro version for studio, more comfortable i guess, and the 32 ohm version, anyone know the SQ difference between 32 and 250, is it just slightly better or huge difference
and i want to buy Xin too, maybe after my wallet has recovered first

I've got a DT990-32, and I've heard the DT990-250 (2005 ed., non-pro).

When both are properly amped, the difference in soundquality is very minor (if it even exists).

When no amp is used, the DT990-32 clearly sounds better.
However, even if it's only 32 ohms, this version also improves with an amp.

All in my opinion, of course. :)
