Asian music (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)

Driving to work this morning I realized that while I have music from all over the world one big whole in my collection (and experience) is East Asia. Not that I am well versed in other areas but I have essentially heard nothing from China, Korea or Japan. Can some of you throw down some recommendations I should follow up on? Classic artists from the past or current phenoms. Traditional or modern. I am in the US so I might have trouble finding more obscure artists. Generally my preferences run along rock and Jazz but I like a wide variety of music.

This entire thread is filled with tons of East Asian music (Chinese, Korean, Japanese), so just take your time and slowly go through the thread--maybe a page or two a day.

I have a Korean music playlist that you might find very helpful--it consists of some of my favorites from both indie and mainstream K-Pop (which is now a global phenomenon): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwThiM_5P5Cahzhqao8-SWEuKI-WOHn3p

I'm currently working on an 80's Japanese music playlist, but it's very difficult because Japan is very strict with copyright and most songs are not available on Youtube or anywhere online: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwThiM_5P5CZVFdbblVV8iBOTqb2eIeAM

More recent Japanese music is a bit easier to find, but I like the older stuff better.

And here's a Chinese pop/rock/indie playlist I just put together: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwThiM_5P5CZs-Pwv0x59iy_pYUxbg2IT

Awesome Thanks!

I am planning for these play lists being my soundtrack for work next week.
