So the summer heat is starting to set in. The room with my computer and all my gear gets extremely hot in the summer when it is all on, and it has to be to listen to music.

It gets so hot it is unbearable without air conditioning. There is central air but it is nowhere near enough, the compressor is a very old and weak, and all around pitiful YORK one. If I turn the central air cool enough to keep my room cool, the rest of the house gets very chilly and it has to be running as long as my gear is powered on pretty much.

Because of this I also have a separate window air conditioner in here. It works, but it is loud and makes music listening impossible. Literally under a minute after being turned off, the room will heat up again. And it gets to hot to comfortably listen to music.

Huston, we have a problem

Ugh, tell me about it. Lately it's been getting hot as hell over here. I have the AC and 2 fans going on in my room right now just so that I can listen to my new D2000s. I have a back-up 3rd fan in my closet in case things get even more extreme

It's times like these that I wish I had a K1000

One of the reasons I want a pair of high-end closed cans that actually block sound both coming in and going out. Until then, I'll be using Etys when I have to have my AC on full blast. Thankfully, it really hasn't been all that bad around here so far.

Yep, same here. I use my E500's when the heat is unbearable.

yea... i've actually created a cave out of my apartment to keep the sun out... and I'm not opening my windows and letting the central-air take over.

K1000: most k1000 power amps are very warm, i can't even use headphones until past 8pm.

You have 2 options:

1. Get a Trane.

2. Throw sand on the floor, get a fake Palm Tree, get a beach chair, put on some Beach Boys music or sounds of Hawaii and close your eyes........

But what about the headphones themselves? I mean, you can always isolate your amp to reduce its heat exposure on you, and then you can enjoy the K1000 because it won't be making as much physical contact with your skin as traditional headphones, right?

i found the best way to deal with the heat is get a small cheaper dual fan window fan.

I put them in at night and suck in all the cool air from outside and i let it run during the night when im sleeping as well. As long as you wake up before 10, it should make your room nice and chilly.

It's worth a try and i love the thing. I do have AC as well, but this is just a little added bonus

Ouch!

Azure the K1000 is the last thing I want right now! What I need is something that isolates like the A900s or better, or better yet, IEMs

yea. when it gets hot, it's like ~85-90 degrees inside my room... the AC isn't loud, but it doesn't cool very well either. so i just turn on speakers instead =]

I had a similar problem last year, in of all places, the Pacific Northwest. Purchased a home sans AC thinking we'll never need it. Wrong! My music room is the warmest room in the house and for a while there last summer, it was too warm even later at night for headphone listening. Since my newborn was in the room next to the music room, I listened through my stereo at v-e-r-y soft volume levels. Pretty much made it quiet background music only, like at department stores.

That really sucked.

My solution: Ety ER4B's. I've got 'em; I'm ready but...fortunately, it hasn't been that warm yet at night. When it does get warm, though, the IEM is my solution.

I agree with others who've suggested an IEM.

Good luck staying cool.

Ciao,
