Preferences: i like my bass but don't want my music to get distorted.
 
I have been told to stay away from M-50's and have been recommend Ultrasone HFI 580's and TMA 1's

Ultrasone is a safe bet for the genres you listen to. The HFI-580 are good, but you can also look at his big brothers (HFI-680/780)

Sometimes the upper range models are cheaper than the 580, but their performance is pretty good. (usually more refined sound, being the 680 more balanced)
