Hi everyone,
I already found quite a lot of responses to my following question, but none of them was satisfying.
I'm new at this 'branch', so honest and objective opinions would be nice.
I'm planning to buy a pair of around-ear headphones. I read a lot about 'heavy bass' and all that, but I'm not that much of a 'basshead'. Actually, I prefer listening to jazz, indie, postrock, ambient, but am also a great fan of dnb, dub and reggae.
I'd primarily use them on the go, although it would be very nice if they offered good sound quality at home as well.
I've been told that for about 100 euros, it's possible to find a decent pair of headphones, so that's pretty much the price range I'd like to stick to. (max 150)
these are options I considered:
- Sennheiser HD 239
- Sennheiser HD 558
- Bose AE2

I've read a lot of reviews about them but they seem to contradict themselves very often. My preference goes out to the HD 558, but I doubt that it works fine with my iPod. (Some sites told me I should buy an amp if I want them to sound best)
The HD 239 is an on-ear model, I'm aware of that, but apparently they're very comfortable as well because of the 'velours'.
The Bose headphones appear to be way too expensive for what you get. Is Bose really that overrated? Like I said, I'm a newbie so don't blame me for asking stupid questions.

Thanks a lot in advance for your, hopefully helpful, responses

You should look into the V-Moda M80/V80s, they are in that price range and are some quality sounding cans. As for the Bose remark the thing is that Bose is pretty much one of the big name brands in the headphone market, so the price you actually pay for their headphones normally don't match up to the quality (sound and build) that you could get from other companies.

HD558's are anti-portable. They will and only should be used inside, without movement f your head.

MDR-V6
Shure 840

And they can be used with your Ipod.
