So I just got a pair of TF 10s, today...

I've listened to them through my Corda Move (source = Blackberry) and then through my WA6 via the sources listed in my signature.

Compared to my 580s the TF 10s sound bloated as hell (even my Promedias have more crisp highs). I mean, the top end just gets swallowed by a hump from the lower end, to me. This is not what I expected from the TF 10s after reading a lot of reviews. In fact I was expecting the TF 10s to sound better than the 580s. By better, I mean less bass heavy/unveiled (since Senns have the rep of being so). I mean, as I'm listening to Calexico the Senns sound sooooo much more balanced than the TF 10s. The top end has a sharp and snappy.

So, am I doing something wrong?

- Do the TF 10s require a burn-in period?
- Is there something wrong with the fit? I've got these things in there deep and I've got a good seal, I think (with silicone tips).

Or, is this just the sound signature of the TF 10s?

1) You're probably going to find IEMs unable to compare to high end headphones of th same price.
2) Fit.
3) Don't use you Blackberry. Try a proper source.

Cool...

As I said, too... I tried them with my CDP to DAC to WA6 and they still sound humped in the bass region. After looking at the HeadRoom audio signal chart, it looks like I may be hearing what it shows, too. :p

@intoflatlines: I will try what you say and see what happens

Also, what about the burn-in? Is there one for these?

Anyone like Ety 4RSs better?

Burn-in is very subjective. Some believe that it is a myth especially for BA IEMs (like the TF10), and others believe that there is a real change in SQ with burn-in.

Personally, I think that there is little if any change with physical burn-in of the IEM. I feel that the real burn-in is that of your brain, which will naturally adjust to the new headphone over period of time (in my opinion).

i have yet to hear a difference with the TF10 when I got it compared to when I listen to it now. Also some people have mentioned that they like ER4 better but thats due to sound signature preference. I like my RE0 better but I use the TF10 more due to the increased isolation.

If it sounds muddy it is most likely due to bad fit. The TF10 are known for horrible fits so it may take a while to figure it out. Try changing tips. I ended up using the sony hybrids on these just to make them comfortable.

They don't sound muddy to me. I came from a Shure e3c and that had no bass at all so I was very happy to have some bass with the Triple-fi 10. Never sounded muddy though and much more detailed than the Shure 420s that i won in the raffle at Canjam.

And here I thought it was just me. I know for sure that I'm getting a good fit, and I have done the flip flop mod, but yes, the tf10s sound a bit muddy to me as well. A bit of it goes away after EQing the hump in the midbass down and upping the high frequencies, but I am ready to accept that maybe this is just preference in sound.

Is anyone else finding that the clarity increases after bumping up the highs? Or is it really just me?

I believe that the TFPs have a U-shaped sound, with the mids recessed compared to the bass and treble.

MGLDyson, is the sound muddy to you because the mids also may be recessed compared to the 580s? I notice that there is a balance in how far you insert the TFPs. Too far into my ears and the sound does become congested and muddy. I am lucky that they fit me well (even if they are a bit Frankensteinish).

I have compared the TFPs to my friends as ER-4Ps with more bass and a less-clear midrange. And yes, the bass does appear accentuated in the mid-bass region, but the bass itself goes very low. The only IEMs that have better bass are my Turbines (especially the Pros which are neutral and flat down low) and my IE8s.

jtsai, I have not experienced any universal IEM that has the extreme treble detail and clarity of the TFPs. To me, their treble is well short of piercing or fatiguing, and very nice and airy. I still have good hearing in the high-end and do not use EQ. I definitely have not felt the need to increase the treble with these.

I guess I'm probably just more attuned to the sound sig of the RE0s. EQing the RE0s with the same settings as my TF10s makes them sound harsh in the highs and hallow in the mids, but it takes EQing the TF10s just to get them to sound relatively as clear as the RE0s.

That or my ears are just freaks. :/

When I came from ER4P I thought I also had a defective pair as the presentation was very cloudy to me. It took about a week for my ears to adjust. Even still I never found them to even be close to the crispness and sharpness of an Ety type IEM. Quite the opposite but TFP10 is heard quite differently from person to person, source to source.
