Hi

Looking for CD players and or MP3 Currently available with a digital optical output.

Waiting to buy Coda/overture combo for portable use only.

I am pretty sure the I river 120 had it but it is not available.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

That doesn't have optical out, only optical in.

Of course, you're right crazychimp. A momentary moment of confusion in my brain.

Has anyone used this with a DAC?

What is the general consensus on this as a player?

Thanks to all !!

IMO, the D-EJ2000 is probably one of the few remaining quality CD players that Sony made. i listened briefly to one during a meet hooked up to a Denon receiver and Paradigms, and they sounded very nice. considering the price of the unit, i wouldnt hesitate to buy one if i ever decided to go the DAC route.

iRiver's 1st gen HD-DAPs did have optical out (mini). All High end Sony PCDPs do have optical-out in mini Toslink as well (D-NE1, D-EJ2000, D-NE10/20/900/920). I do believe some of the Japanese Panasonic PCDPs has optical out, along with some of the iRiver's PMP line of PCDPs as well, but uncertain of which models do.

The iRiver iMP-550 has optical-out. A very nice player IMO, and apparently the only iRiver PDCP with optical out. And to correct Damage, the PMP line is a hard drive-based video player without optical out.

I agree with fr4c about the D-EJ2000. I have had mine for about three years now, and use it all the time. I listen to mostly classical and some jazz, and with my Xin SuperMacro V.3 (and various versions of Xin amps before)and the sound is truly remarkable - clear, wide frequency spectrum. Of course, it does not have the same portability as an mp3 player, but a real CD is hard to beat (if a bit of a bother to cart around!)

I could kick myself for not getting a DAC earlier, but in my defense I hadn't the foggiest idea what it was or does! So, now I am eargerly awaiting any new portable DAC that comes out...and maybe XIN will do it first.

I would encourage you to listen to a D-EJ2000 if you can and with an amp if possible. I think you will be presently suprised.

By the way I also have a Sony D-EJ915 and 985, and a refurbished D-FJ401 all with optical lines out. All very good, but the D-EJs being better, in my opinion.

Headroom already has/had/will have a portable DAC

See the link above for Coda / Overture.

Looks to be very promising.

I did a search for the Sony and it still seems to be available. I hope those are'nt old links on Yahoo shopping.

This forum is amazing.

Just got the ETY 4s/p and as soon as the Headroom coda /overture is available I will purchase that. I hope it is a significant step up from the ETY -6's and air head amp I currently use.

Regards,

Many in the D-EJ line have optical out, though if you have a standard toslink cable, you'll need a toslink to mini optical adaptor (RatShack; $2. 95). I use both the EJ725 and the EJ2000 as a source for my Mini-DAC and both work very well.
