Are the Ultrasone HFI-780/ALO-780 for me?

Well after a couple of weeks of research the Ultrasone HFI-780 seem to be a great headphone for the price. Apparently the bass is too prominent and overpowering and the ALO Jena labs 18awg cable fixes this and dramatically affects the sound (with the mods that ALO does). These apparently sound 90% of what the Ed9 sound like so I am about to buy the ALO-780. I was just wondering if these are exactly what I'm looking for? I currently listen to my Grado SR-225 through my Zero DAC and Qinpu A-3 tube amplifier. I use Coax to connect the computer's on board sound to the Zero playing lossless files. My library is 90% metal with a few rock albums and electronica.

I find the Grado's to bore me a tad with the bass. I really want it do be deeper, have more impact. I cannot 'feel' the bass like I would like to. I think it's my Westone UM3X that have done this to me, I am accustomed to their bass. I won't spend over $600 on a pair of headphones right now, but am trying to not spend over, say, $500usd. I find the Grado's to be comfortable for some reason, I think my ears are used to the bowls now. I have done the basshead mod but I find there is enough bass 'quantity', but I am really wanting to feel the bass when the drums kick in, hence I am looking for more impact. I don't think the high's are piercing on the Grado's at all like other's say they are. I even cut off the brown caps on my Zero DAC which strengthens the bass and apparently makes the high's a bit piercing on Grado's, I do not find this so.

Currently thinking about:

Grado RS-1
Grado HF-2
Ultrasone ALO-780

Thanks in advance

Not enough bass? wow. I thought the Ultrasones had a lot of bass. Darn all the selections of headphones. Ultrasone's interest me, but I'd love to try Beyerdynamic DT770/DT880 one day. The Sony MDR-SA5000 seems really good but I am unsure of how it performs with metal

I treid the DT880 a couple of years ago. They were too bright for me. In fact they were so bright my ears rang for quite a while after listening. I returned them and got the Denon D2000 instead. Good move on my part.

I am going to purchase the HFI780 next year. I like the Ultrasone sound.

Hmm I wonder if I will like their sound signature. I am so close to buying the ALO-780. If i dislike them, I guess someone will want to buy them. From there I will save up for the Grado HF-2.

How do you find your new ALO-780's? I'm thinking of sending mine to Ken but shipping & Handling might be too much that I might as well wait for one in the 2nd hand market.

I love mine better than the K701's and HD650's with Silver Dragon V2 cable.

It is bass intensive and seems outrageous at first (for me anyway) but as you become accustomed to it and play music that does not have the bass already boosted in it, then it's quite enjoyable. But IMO, it is not worth anywhere near $600- I got mine used for under $300 (ALO modded) and that is a more palatable price. I think the D5000 is better in some ways and they can be had for under $400 new. They do not isolate much though.

I paid $350 used, shipped with a HD650 box with a couple of 1/4" to 1/8" adaptors. 4 day shipping from Hong Kong to Australia, pretty good deal if you ask me. I wouldn't pay $595, $400 max. Funny thing is, buying them used is cheaper than just the mod itself
