I want to listen to my S5/music when I'm not at home.  Just curious if the Galaxy S5 earbuds that came with it are any good.  Also can you guys recommend me good earbuds that don't require portable amp/dac?

Depends what you mean by "good". You could get the Phillips SHE3590 for around 10 bucks or you could get the Hifiman RE-400 for 100 bucks. What kind of music do you listen to and how much do you want to pay for them?

What type of sound signature are you looking for? If you want something neutral go with the RE-400.

I'll also throw in the Vsonic GR07 and GR07 Bass Edition, which seem to be forum favorites under ~$150.

The EarPods of the iPhone 5S are actually very good, if you don't need isolation and don't have comfort issues.

Well mate,

I just bought the new S5 and .... those ear-buds are VERY good!!
And they are very much better then older generations from Samsung or Apple.

I also run a AKG K551, Beyer-dynamic DT880 and Pioneer DJE-2000 in-ears.

So; I have some comparison. The ear-buds that come with the S5 are VERY much better then most included ear-buds.
Suggestion: Get some compliance tips to put on those ear-buds, you ll be surprised.

That said ... there is always room for improvement, but I would advise using the ones that came with the phone for a while, so you get used to the sound.
Then look out to test some others.

Greetings,

Casper

Just got an S5 as an upgrade to my trusty S4 and must say I'm very surprised how good these stock earphones are. Far better than my $50 sennheisers and recently purchased Audiofly's. Feeling ripped off right now.

I got my S5 4 months ago and just recently tried the inbox IEM's after being annoyed by my usual Panasonic RP-HJE900-K (the cubic zirconium ones). I've always loved them but have a hell of a time keeping them in and the right channel is 25% lower than the other. Anyway, i put away my snobbishness regarding stock buds and tried the S5 ones and was pretty damned shocked! They sound slightly better to my ears than the pannys, much more upfront mids, but it's the far wider and fuller sound stage that wins them for me. Also the fact that despite being a millimeter or so wider in the nozzle, they stay in much better and are much more comfortable overall.
