These are no good, IIRC - the frequency response shows a fat bass hump and very bright highs with sucked-out mids in between. Better get a HD555, DT440 or something like that.
Thanks for your reply. I need them mainly to listen classical music, and they must be easy to drive because I have no amp (yet) in my computer. I am thinking about the SD595, which is highly regarded here as one of the best sub-300$ headphones. If I can find it, can it be driven just by my computer's sound card?.
Dunno whether HD595s would fit within a €120 budget everywhere... you can barely get them for <120 here in .de. As for running those from a sound card, it may be helpful to state which model you have there. Headphone driving capabilities can vary greatly between them.
I know they will be more expensive...I have an asus a8n-sli deluxe motherboard with integrated Realtec ALC850 8-channel codec sound, with analog and digital output (optical and also through RCA connector).
And yes, there used to be a K401, you can even find a review for this model on headphonereviews.org and a comparative frequency response measurement in j-curve's old thread (similar to K501, but slightly dropping off at both extremes of the spectrum).
If you take a look into the K401/K501 service manual you'll find out that they're almost identical. I think basically its just the real leather headband... Got a K401 for 40€ on ebay, not that bad
