First post.
I have been using a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 Headphones for the past few years and decided I wanted to improve my audio quality and get a better pair of headphones. I recently purchased the Sennheiser HD 555's and after 100hrs of burn in I found them to be slightly disappointing. I use a zune, Nano, and desktop for listening without an amp mostly 320kbs mp3 and lossless tracks. I'm looking for a pair of comfortable headphones for home use only that sound great on all types of music, including audio books. I found the bass on the 555's to be somewhat lacking and certain types of music like classical, rock and some movie soundtracks like the fountain by clint mansell sound flat and muffled when compared to my old 202's and my shure e2c's which sounded cleaner but not much bass. when listening to audiobooks the 555's make me feel like I'm listening in from a distance. on the plus side the 555's are extremely comfortable and can sound amazing on some songs. would the 595's be a significant step up in sound quality? or should I go with a different headphone and forget Sennheiser all together.
Thanks for any help.

The bigger question is: Are YOU ready for the 595?

jokes aside, i think the problem here is that you are not using an external amp with your senheisers. for the 555 or 595 to be driven properly, you would need to hook it up to an amp, especially for the 5xx/6xx series. here is a quote from a reliable review (http://www.headphone.com/products/he...ser-hd-555.php):

"The headphones remain fairly efficient at 50-ohms impedance rating and should be OK to drive from most computers, iPods, Mp3 players, and portable DiscMan/WalkMan players. But hook these cans up with a HeadRoom Mobile, Micro, or Desktop headphone amp and... WHOA!. . . these headphones transform into a quite impressive listening experience."

get the picture?
i suggest getting an amp such as ones suggested in the review with your Sennheisers for an improved listening experience
are you ready?

i've heard the hd202s and they have big bass. the hd555/595 won't give you that quantity of bass. you'll get better quality bass from the 595 however.

to give you an idea the hd202s had as much bass as the dt990 pro but it didn't go as deep and was a bit boomy.

if you want a step up from your hd202s go for the dt770 80 ohm for $140, similar sound signature except better in every way. another can to try are the equation rp-21 for $100; these are almost as easy to drive as the hd202s and have better sq. rp-21s are said to have great bass and my guess is the quantity should be close to the hd202s if not more.

if you dont need portability, get the little dot tubes amp, they have great synergy with the hd595
