Are Sol Republic Headphones Worth Buying?

Jan 9, 2014 at 7:31 PM Post #17 of 28

FINALLY. Somebody that agrees with me. Sol Republic's are possible THE best headphones I've EVER heard. My goodness. Best purchase I've ever made.

I wouldn't call the the best (there is better stuff out there)...  They certainly are great headphones, sonically and aesthetically.  They are built very well too...  Overall, they offer a very good package.  This is in reference to the Tracks Ultra BTW...  I wasn't too impressed with the Master Tracks, they were a little too dark for my tastes...  Haven't gotten my hands on the XC, seems bleak at the moment (they are supposed to be good though) :(

Beats really are not that great. I remember my first high-end headphones or so I thought at the time were beats and while I admit they sounded better then dollar tree headphones for sure I was quite disappointed in what I was getting for $200+ and didn't see the point in buying something that costs so much more with just a slight increase in sound quality.

I also don't agree with this whole "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those outside" statements. Your supposed to buy headphones for sound, not looks. I guess it's the whole beats marketing that has everyone think looks justify the cost more so then how good they actually sound...

Personally the ATH-M50 are around $100 - $150 and sound much better then beats. They are very much more durable then beats for sure, both my beats easily broke, the second pair snapped in half just from putting them on my head... If your worried about style they have a White model which I have and everyone has said they look really nice and also there is a Red and Black model and ofc the Silver limited Edition model all of which are stylish.

The Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro looks decent and the back can be customized to your liking. Also you can adjust the amount of bass at will. Tell me that isn't cool? There also on sale for US on Amazon atm for $169 - http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Custom-One-Pro-Black/dp/B008XEYT48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389314695&sr=8-1&keywords=Custom+one+pro

The Sol Republic while not my first choice do look nice and have a virtually indestructible headband. They also come apart so you can easily replace bad parts so they will be much more durable then beats and a better bang for your buck.

Also as many have said there are the V-Moda headphones of which you have many choices in the $100 - $300 range. They all look sleek and stylish, are built like tanks, and are generally regarded as some of the best basshead headphones in their price range.

I wasn't being sarcastic in my post.  I actually feel the Ultras can easily rival something like the V-Moda M-80s which are already well regarded on these forums.

They surprised me with that offering...  Then I heard the Master Tracks a times later and felt sad (big step backwards, but they are comfy).

I got tired of my Shure earbuds (made my ears sore, I just can't do buds, I have no idea why I bought them in the first place) and replaced them with the Sol V10. I almost got the V12 (the "Ultra") but I wanted to keep the price down (meh $30) and I read that the V12s didn't have as nice/deep bass, it seemed washed out. The V8 9? Whatever below 10 is, that was apparently way too muddy in the bass department from what I heard, not crisp. It was comparable to Beats in that regard (was how I was interpreting it - I only had a chance to listen to the V10s and V12s in the store). So I got the 10's, though the 12's looked really, really pretty.

I think it might be fair to look at them in that way... How much bass are you looking for? What kind of balance? Are you ok with more bass the expense of detail loss?

I'm pretty happy with the V10s. I know they aren't the best out there and I'd prefer my Swan desktop monitors any day of the week (again, my preference of good quality for good price without breaking the bank) - but when I'm working in an office? Travelling? Heck yes I want the Sol Republic. Why? Build quality and price point for the sound quality. I can those these in my bag and not worry a bit.

However what attracted me most to Sol was that their philosophy is in line with mine. Good quality at a fair price. Again not the "best" and the intent isn't to be the "best" ... It's just to be a good deal. So I'm quite happy with Sol both on price point and their philosophy.

I do not believe they are on the same "quest" or path as Beats. I wouldn't feel like you were getting ripped off if you bought them...I don't feel ripped off.

That said, the V-Moda M80s cost more than the V10s, but if you're looking at the V12, then they are also in the same price range and worth considering. Beyerdynamic is also solid if you can find a pair in the same price range (on sale?), a guy I work with has a pair.

I just picked up the Sol  Air Tracks, wanted something to wear at work and at the gym that was wireless.  I think they sound really good for Bluetooth, seem well made and are comfortable.  Amazon had them for $165.

The Sol Republic's Tracks are good buys for their price and durability. I've had Sol Republics before and I do believe they rise up higher in standard than beats or and mainstream Monster headphone. Don't get me wrong, they're not better then big bad sennheisers or grados. But for a regular listener who needs an affordable, nice sound, and stylish headphone this may be the one for you. All the audiophiles in this thread shouting at you saying "They're mainstream and mainstream ALWAYS SUCKS." Are simply just used to hi-fi sound, and/or they haven't even tried the Sol Republics and assume they're crap.
If you get them get them on Amazon. DON'T get them from bestbuy, that would be throwing away 40$.  Amazon - 60$   BestBuy - 100$
Really its your choice, I honestly think they are a nice little pair of headphones to carry around, (Not to mention they are extremely durable. If they break, you can even replace the broken part.) for more info you can look at my review for these: http://www.head-fi.org/products/sol-republic-tracks/reviews/13557
If you get any other I would probably recommend V-MODA.

(Sorry for posting if this was a ded thred, just wanted to add my argument. XD)
