Are people from Audiogon FS as trustworthy as Head-Fiers ?

Every bit as good as the deals I have done here. In some ways I like it better, because of the average age of the people you deal with.
I have had great luck with both sites.

People on Audiogon are quite nice. The people I've talked with are all mature adults (many of whom are in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s!). I've even talked with a few on the phone! The ones I've dealt with were great people. I personally enjoy sharing my love of music and audio equipment with knowledgeable, experienced, and intriguing Audiogon folks.

Be aware of some quack sellers though. (People who sell unreasonable and borderline idiotic items.)

I, too, have had uniformly excellent experiences on the 'gon. And, with the availability of an on-line "bluebook", it's easy for anyone to know how much to ask or offer. The bluebook feature does require payment of a fee, however.

Agreed, I have not had problems with folks I actually dealt with on sales.

However, if you have listed a piece that is in fair demand and you are asking fair price, expect at least a few goofy low-ball offers from folks who have, let's say, "marginal feeback at best", if you catch my drift. Just ignore them.

There are also inquiries from people who don't take time to research anything at all about the piece on their own.....questions like "That unit has balanced outputs, right?" when the manufacturer in question never built any balanced gear, ever.

pretty negative in my opinion if you're selling, decent if you're buying.

I've sold countless things on Audiogon and the low-ballers, tire-kickers are in full swing there... People contact you to ask system synergy questions and don't intend to buy and the classic is "what did you upgrade to?" ... I've gotten tons of those.

I'd say it's gone downhill in the last 5 years or so.

Now, if you're buying and selling above the $2000 mark, things are very nice. Last year I'd say above the $1000 mark, but then I sold some Ayre and BAT equipment and it left a bad taste in my mouth ...

I've had a ton of good luck there, have met and kept in touch with several folks.

It's funny though: just last week, I got my first scam attempt. I ended up only replying from my Yahoo account, as it was borderline valid, possibly.

But the replies, about having the shipping company pick it up, and giving me more than the asking price, "just pay the rest to shipping vcompany." Etc etc. It was fun teasing him along for a while, but then I basically said I'll meet the shipper in a public place, and I'll swap the unit for xxxx in cash only. If you can't or won't do this, we don't have a deal. Haven't heard from him since

But other than that, cklear flying all the way for me.
