Hey all, I bought a pair of Sennheiser CX-300 II's from a third party highly rated Amazon vendor about a week ago. I have had them for a week, and noticed that they don't really sound much better than the headphones that came with my old Zune. After doing some research, I came to a brief conclusion that they are most likely fake, and not genuine Sennheiser product.

However, I am unable to completely tell, and would like to enlist the help of the Head-fi community to help me determine this.

I've owned two pairs of CX-300 headphones that I purchased from newegg.com over the past five years. Someone I know purchased the CX-300 II from a third party vendor on Amazon.com. The CX-300 II they purchased sounded nothing like my CX-300. The CX-300 II more closely resembled the earbuds that have come with every apple device I have ever bought. This could just be the differences between the two headphone models, though I suspect the same as you: they are counterfeit headphones.

I see you are new to the site. If you are looking for decent in ear headphones, here is a link to a thread that has reviews on in ear headphones that will fit any budget:

From my experience, the most famous headphone on this website under $100 is the Head-Direct (HiFiMan) RE-0. Etymotic Research is another company that comes to mind with great sub-$100 headphones.

Thank you for the response.

I am in a pretty tight budget for headphones, and seeing that Sennheiser is a reputable and high-quality brand, I felt it met my qualifications.

I will look into your suggestion, and look at some price, but for the time being, I would really like to get a legitimate replacement for my Sennheisers. :)
