Hello, my new pair ath m50x arrived yesterday, and I connected them on the computer and then in my Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, but i was pretty dissapointed, the sound was horrible, no bass, no highs, and the audio in general was distorted.

The first time I listened to my M50'a I had the same frustration. The issue wasn't the headphones, it was the source. They were my first pair where it was impossible not to notice the relative quality of a file. What's your source?

The pics look pretty legit. I have the original M50's so I can't account for everything since there are differences between those and the X version.

But to say no bass and no highs is definitely not what the experience of these cans are.

Either you are used to extreme bass & highs, there's something wrong or damaged with the headphones, or somethings up with your source.

I agree that they don't look like ripoffs, they look pretty sturdy. Do they feel sturdy as well?

I can't imagine being able to help much without info about what kind of files you're playing, what you're using to play them, and what your previous cans were.

But regardless of any of that, DON'T PANIC! It's not uncommon to have negative first impressions of high quality gear. Almost all my favorite gear today sounded disappointing to me at first. When i got my Chord Mojo, I was very disappointed, feeling like it didn't have nearly enough bass. I'm told by people who would know that the Mojo's sound doesn't change at all from 0 hours to 100 to 1,000, yet now I absolutely love the bass! What happened, then? Brain burn in so dramatic it's difficult to believe.

Be patient with it, give it time. On the very small chance it's defective, you'll know it. Good luck

I had the ATH-M50 but not the X revision, so I have to ask those with the X model: is the cord termination stem supposed to be glossy? The ear cups for my M50 were not glossy, but the cable was not detachable...

You mean the connector shell of the headphone cable? Either way, no. You can go to Google Images to see.
