are KSC35's justifiable upgrades over my KSC50s?

ok, now that koss has finally brought back the KSC35s (temporarily?), i may as well pick up a pair. but is it worth it? if i weren't already spending my money on tons of cd's i wouldn't think twice about paying $30 on headphones. but i haven't gotten a job yet, and im still running on a total of $110 and am trying to save. with that in mind, is it really worth it to upgrade my KSC50s? i'm happy with the sound quality but they HURT my ears after half an hour or so. thanks for any replies.

and please, no one tell me to search. i know the KSC35s have been discussed in detail, but it can be difficult to patch together different parts of different threads to get a question answered thoroughly.

how many more times do you expect me to say how great the KSC-35s are before you get off your ass and buy yourself a pair?

we wouldn't say that they're worth 70-80 dollars and people wouldn't have paid 90+ on ebay for them if they weren't worth AT LEAST 30 dollars

Other than the fact that you find the KSC 50 uncomfortable, I would spend my money on more music!

But if your headphones are uncomfortable, it can't be a lot of fun to listen to them.

I must confess to liking the 35s much more than the 50s... the 35s, although sounding dark ~ sound much cleaner than the 50s, who's sound is all over the place... I really can't understand how anyone can like the 50s... although the 35s ARE likeable, and even the fit of the clip is 10 times better on the 35s than the 50s...

yea, thats the thing. i was saving up between january and may to take my honey somewhere really nice on prom night, and as a result i didn't get ANY cds between then except for one. so now i'm catching up on music.

and i have 3 primary headphones. SR60s for home, PX200s for school and car trips, and my KSC50s for everything else, general public use or whenever im too lazy to re-coil that giant grado cord at home. so it's not like my 50's are the ONLY cans that are available for me to listen to, but i've just heard SOOOOO much about how great the 35s are, as has everyone else here. and i'm wondering whether it would be worth spending another $30 for new headphones that would be used for 50% of my listening time.

[edit] - also, is there anywhere other than ebay where you can get the 35s for less than msrp? whats the cheapest place? if i can find em significantly cheaper i might be wooed to buy em regardless.

Yes, they are worth $30. It's nice having both KSC-35's and SR60's around. I'm only aware of Koss selling these again. A month or so ago people were paying $50-$100 on ebay, just buy them!!!!

50% of your listening time is a lot. KSC-35's or two new albums? Your choice.

I don't know... they're not THAT great, not to my ears (then again... looking at my 'rig', I guess i'm out of the KSC-35 league now

Worth $30? too damned right! - but are they the best portable 'phones on the block? if you like a dark sound... yes! - if you like a treble zing, look elsewhere...

yea, i think they'll contrast nicely with my PX200s. it'll be good to have a both to switch between when i get tired of the other. i really like how the KSC50 sounds, they have a seemingly huge soundstage (for tiny cans), but they HURT!!!

[EDIT] - well, i just parted with $36 and ordered KSC35s. that wasn't too bad, now was it?

they work really well with the ety ER4P->4S adapter. If you have one lying around, i suggest pairing it with the KSC-35s, it definitely tightens up the bass and tames the highs, leaving you with a quite enjoyable pair of headphones. From what I heard at the so-cal meet, they're leagues ahead of the KSC-50

ill have to try the adapter sometime. but i literally hid my money where i can't see it so i won't be tempted to spend any more until i get a job. there's a bike shop where i can likely get a job, so afterwards i can try whatever

Interesting. I was thinking of picking up some Ety 4P's with the adapter cable, but the fact that it would turn out to be ~$300 total is holding me back. I have been curious about these headphones for over a year and a half now though... I was just going to leave the adapter plugged into my computer and so I could have 4S' when I'm stationary and have 4P's for my iPod.

Kinda off topic, but what is the best way to get a 4P>4S adapter cable? Is it worth it to go buy the one that Etymotic offers, or go find a vendor elsewhere online (or in the Head-Fi Market forum), or build it myself? I don't know how easy it would be to get the components I need to make a good quality cable.
