Are Denon D5000's a good match with my Grado SR225's?

Looking to make a little room in my wallet. Love my Grado's, would the D5000's be a nice match for my 2nd pair of headphones?
I have a Pico on the way which I hope will add some pleasure to both the Grado's and the Denon's.

Yep -- the D5000 will satisfy your craving for just a it more bass than the Grados can give, but without being "too much" -- you will be happy with them.
They also have good mids and highs, but not "Grado-like" highs -- only Grado does that. But the bass is too die for!

Denons are to Grados... as... Senns are to Grados.

If you like Senns, you'll like Denons - especially compared to the HD580/600s (but with a bit more bass).

Would that go for the D2000's also? I've read all the D5000-D2000 comparisons, still not quite sure which one I will pull the trigger on. It's kind of like the Pico vs. Predator debate. 1/2 and 1/2.

I would chose a 2nd fon that is as different as possible to your SR225, in order to increase genre and mood bandwidth. I'm not totally sure if it's exactly the Denon that would be the best complement in that respect. My vote for a K701 or a DT880, in order to achieve airyness and treble resolution your Grado lacks.

I was interested in the 701's but worried about driving them with my D2 boa or Pico.

I wouldn't say that the K701 is such a bad powerpig. A simple Mini³ or even a well equipped Cmoy did them justice IMO. Posts like "unlistenable with every amp under 500$" are mostly bumptious headfi myths IMO. Unless you drive them totally unamped, everything's fine.

No need to howl with the wolves.

Yes.
The D2000 is very good -- but, the D5000 is just a bit better, if you can afford it. Otherwise, the D2000 just fine.
