I just received a pair of Denon AH-D1001, and find them very bass heavy (iPod and 2move amp).

Is it me that needs some getting used to, or are the phones known for this?

Apart from the heavy bass I quite like them. Is there a mod to tame the bass, or would you rather suggest another closed can with a more flat representation?

Thanks a lot for your help

x2 on the bass heavy out of an ipod Nano. I dont see the bass changing that much with running in.

I have not heard theses specific recommendations, but I have heard others in the range and the reviews say they have a flatter, less coloured response; Senn HD380 and AKG K272.

Another closed back can to consider is the noise cancelling Goldring NS1000. I find there is more depth and bass with NR off, but overall they are quite neutral and not bass heavy at all. They leak noise, but even with NR off keep you well isolated. They are only £50 at Play.com, down from £160, so they are a bargain.

It is definitely not true with the Goldrings, which definitely do hifi. That may be due to them still working without NR and a battery in, which some cans need. So, my understanding is that Goldring have had to consider closed backed performance as well.

It's definitely coloured, but I do also feel that the fact is usually overstated around these parts. It's not a clusterfaack of bass as some people make it seem to be IMO, and has good enough highs and clear enough mids for something in its price range. And with recabling and other mods you can make them more neutral if need be.

Thanks, that is justwhat I needed to hear!

I really like their size (small enough to be protable) and I agree on the highs and mids

Thanks for telling me. I think I have some Dynamat left overs from a mod on Utrasones Proline 650
