Are animated avatars allowed?

Yeah that's the problem, it has to fit in the size limit which can be challanging. I hand tweaked mine.

Dancing smileys, bananas, crazy whirling smileys, you bet they can be animated here, but they're also quite funny to boot. We've got some pretty creative members that hang here, it makes things more enjoyable.

I changed my animated avatar to a regular one after I read an older thread in which Jude alluded to not liking animated avatars. I have no idea what thread that was though.

Ok, I've seen animated avatars that I really hate (on other forums), but so far every animated avatar in this thread has been good

As long as people keep it cool, amusing, interesting or subtle, I like 'em!
It's the irritating, flashing or gratuitous ones that bug me personally.
