I didn't see a thread devoted to the Apple Vision Pro . . . and perhaps this belongs in a different forum (Computer Audio? Portable Source Gear?). But I do think the audio technology on the Apple Vision Pro merits a dedicated discussion thread.

I've been using my Apple Vision Pro for a week now. And as impressive as the visuals are -- and they're pretty damn impressive -- I have also been surprised by the quality of the Apple Vision Pro's built in speakers, which are in "audio pods" that each house two drivers that aim sound at your ears. They work surprisingly with with Dolby Atmos movie soundtracks as well as Dolby Atmos music tracks on Apple Music. They lack deep bass, and for some that might be a deal breaker. But so far I haven't felt the need to pair my AVP with separate headphones.

Personally, I wish Apple would introduce headphones that that utilize the audio technology from the Apple Vision Pro.

too expensive to be worth mentioning.

still in its very early stages, which might get interesting after the second generation

Hey,
Got a question for you. I’m a huge fan of big and impressive venues, with gigantic screens (IMAX for ex.) to watch movies. Do you feel the AVP offers a similar experience than going to a real theatre ? How does it compare to it ?
Thanks

I have a Vision Pro and absolutely love it. I think the speaker sound quality it pretty good too. I'm traveling, so I don't have it with me, but I haven't tried the Vision Pro with my Airpod Pro 2s yet. I think it might even make everything sound a little better. I got the Hifiman Suvarna, but didn't like the sound quality at all; I much preferred the sound quality of the Airpods Pro 2.

But the Vision Pro is absolutely amazing, aside from sound quality. It really could be the future of computing. I'm really glad I got mine :metal:

Different apps on the Apple Vision Pro have different immersive "environments" in which you can watch movies. Apple has a "Cinema" environment which simulates the visual experience of going to the theater very well, although the graphic design is pretty simple - more like a spartan screening room. Disney has a theater environment as well that's much more accurate in its theater details - all the way down to the cup holders. But you don't have the seating options you have in the Cinema environment.

I would say that from a visual standpoint, watching 4K movies in the Cinema environment comes very close to watching movies on a big screen (and if you choose the front row option, the screen is HUGE). And watching 3D movies on the Apple Vision Pro is arguably superior to the experience in theaters. But the vertical field of view is a bit limited, so the Apple Vision Pro can't complete with the traditional two-story tall IMAX screens. But for someone like me, who lives in a small apartment, what I experience visually through my Apple Vision Pro is almost certainly better than anything I could experience with a conventional home theater set-up.

As for audio, the immersive audio through the AVP's build in speakers is very good. I watched the D-Day invasion segment of Saving Private Ryan last night and I was getting a surround sound experience very similar to what I would have in a well callibrated home theater. The only thing that's lacking is the low end. But again, I live in an apartment. So there are practical limits to what I could do bass-wise even with a home theater set-up. There are some "wearable subwoofer' type products that reproduce the low end vibrations from deep bass. Perhaps in the future there will be a way to integrate those devices with the Apple Vision Pro for a better. But I've really been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the audio, and have not found that it detracts in any way from the movie watching experience.
