I've read some pretty good things about Matthew Ankers modifications. Unfortunately, the reviews I've read were from people who use the players primarily for headphone listening. I would like to get one of the Sony players and have it modified but it would be strictly for 2 channel listening.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these players in the main stereo setup?

I use my sacdmods 555es as the main source in my speaker rig. I have a gilmore headamp that I use as the preamp so I can listen to phones or speakers; although 90% of the time I use the speakers. The sound is excellent. Smooth, resolving and dynamic with powerful bass. I am a 2 channel guy and never use the multichannel outputs like you. I also have two sacdmods 222es players I use with headphones only. The 555es and 222es are both so good but the 555es pulls ahead when listening through speakers. There is more resolution of space, better dynamics and a punchier bass register with the 555es. The 222es is still very good and unless you directly compare the two you likely wouldnt feel you were missing anything.
