Great forum, as soon as I found it I started doing overtime at work

My first question, is anyone using Beyer DT250's and a Revo ? what volume levels do you get directly from the headphone out on the card without an amp ? does it drive it to uncomfortable levels ? Not that I want to listen that loud, I just like to have it there.

I have been swinging back and forward between choosing the 80's and the 250's, ahhhh I can't decide.

Some say I will get the volume I'm after, some say to use an amp or go with 80's. I don't want to buy an amp, but I have heard that 250's are much better.

I was going to get the 250's and plug them into my Klipsch promedia 2.1 headphone out which is amped, but I read here that sounds crap

(sounds ok to me with my setup as it stands)

So now I'm leaning toward the 80's again, I have read many people saying they are happy with 80's so I assume I would be, it's just knowing the 250's are better for the same price.

I posted the question on OCAU and had some useful replies, thanks to Snufkin who is also a member here I see, Hi Snufkin

(info about my setup and listening there)

But the recommendation there to go with the 250's was based on using the Klipsch socket which I now don't want to do so that changes things.

I hope people here can help me make a final decision

If it sounds good to you, then it is good; just not the best. You can always hook up any receiver you have kicking around in your garage and it should sound much better. That way you can hook up a CD player or DVD player or have the amp go out to your regular speakers.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it sounds OK to me now (Klipsch headphone out) while using my K.55's and my soundblaster live value. But when I upgrade to Beyers and a Revo, from what I have read I will notice the sound from the Klipsch amped socket sounds crap.

So now I will want to plug the new headphones straight into the soundcard.

I only listen to music on my PC, or on my car mp3 player, I have no stand alone cd player, sold it to buy my Klipsch

The only sound gear in my garage is a 50 year old broken valve radio that I will probably never get around to restoring

Is there any particular reason you want the Revo? Instead of that I'd go with the Chaintech AV-710 which sounds just as good as the Revo at 1/4 the price or with the EMU 0404 which is the same price but sounds much better. Of course both have drawbacks but if you only need stereo output then they're good choices.

My advice is to just get the DT250-250s unless you listen at very high volumes. They're not that hard to drive, especially compared to other headphones like the HD600, and they do sound better than the DT250-80s. I have used them successfully without an amp. Plus, if you don't get the better headphones, you'll be itching to upgrade later. The DT250-250s are balanced and easy to live with. I've heard all the major closed headphones except the A900 and the Ultrasones, and the DT250-250 is my favorite of the bunch. It's hard to do better than those guys if you want closed headphones.

Commando do you know anywhere to buy a Chaintech in NZ that will post to OZ ?

The only place I can find that ships them to OZ is in US and they want US$60 for postage.

I'm not willing to pay US$60 postage on a US$25 card
