just wondering how big their following is here in this board?

I do. Although I haven't listened to their album for a very long time. I think I might've lost it. Either that or it's in the pile of discs by my tv. I'll give it a look tonight before I go to bed.

Personally, one of my favourite Incubus songs is "Aqueous Transmission" for it's relaxation factor. A great song to fall asleep to.

What other bands do you listen to, screwdriver?

I really liked their S.C.I.E.N.C.E album but haven't heard their albums after that.

I love Incubus - After SCIENCE they got progressively softer and more mellow (read: weed music) but there is plenty to like in all their albums (after SCIENCE: before they had some crazy indie metalcore thing going on, not my style).

I don't think they have one bad song on their albums, and if there is one, I could find 20 that are good. They are consistently excellent.

I have their 3 latest CDs which span 3 different sounds. They're the best at what they do IMO. Lots of different stuff going on in their songs and they managed to transform their sound significantly and still sound good. And then there's where their soft and hard side collide, A Certain Shade of Green played at Unplugged. One of their craziest songs played mellow and unplugged (obviously), pulled it off amazingly.

I don't listen to them often anymore, but if I ever need a break from current listening or just feel in the mood it's there for me.

I don't mean to start a fight or anything, but I'm just wondering... what makes you think that they sold out? Was it their music, or their actions, or both? Is there something I haven't heard about? I'm sort of out of the loop on Incubus (not that I was even in the loop at any time).

Two of the dudes from Incubus came out and performed at the 'No Doubt' concert in NYC last week. They covered the Police's 'Message in a Bottle' with Gwen, and they sounded better than Sting did at the Superbowl.

That Gwen/Sting duet was incredible. I was blown away by that performance.

Incubus certainly hasn't sold out. They made a few indie albums that were terrible, and they know it. But after SCIENCE, they got more mellow, more into chill-types of music. So did Radiohead. Did Radiohead sell out? Or is it because their music is still relatively inaccessible that they are able to balance on the fence between mainstream and indie.

If Incubus went from soft to hard, you would not be calling them selling out. They had singles from SCIENCE and Make Yourself, no less than they did on Morning View. I hate that view of 'selling out' with no justification.

I recently fell in love with incubus. I actually don't like their harder stuff that much. I've just gotten into them with morning view, but I love the laid back style. Plus, I think that the singer is using his voice better than on previous albums (although, I've only just sampled the previous albums, don't have them.) They have so many good songs. I like the way they rock out and I like the way they mellow.

Yes, Aqueous Transmission is pretty mellow. I wish they could have done a little more in that song with the ko-kyu. I dig it.

Seriously, anything after Kid A, IMO is just horrible

Umm... There was only one album after Kid A, and that was Amnesiac, an album of rejected left-over tracks recorded during the Kid A sessions. So... what are you trying to say here? Kid A was easily one of the best albums of 2001. Amnesiac was filler, but there are some amazing songs on it like 'You and Whose Army' and 'The Pyramid Song'.

Their new album is supposed to go back to the roots. It's got more guitar-sounds; maybe it'll be a worthy successor to OK Computer, the best album of the 90's.
