I left my wife's 3G iPod in a hot car for a few hours when she first got it, and it wouldn't work for a couple of hours...until it cooled off I suppose, but at first I thought I killed it and never dared leave it in the car on cold or hot days after that.

Anyone have any experience with players that can take the heat/cold better, I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight, but in a glove box or center console. I am in New England so sub 0 cold possibly in winter too. Never tried that with the iPod after my experience with the heat of summer.

Its a pain having to take the thing with you when you don't plan on using it, just so it will work when you get back to the car.

I left my Zen in the car on a hot day (And boy does it get HOT in texas) once and when I got out of work, I went to turn it on and it showed "Overheating...Shutting Down".

Pretty neat that the Zen's actually say this while iPods just shut off :\

From now on I just carry it inside to work and keep it in my locker. Kind of a hassle, but it's worth the healthy player and battery.

Experienced a colder winter than usual. Left karma in car last winter and it screwed up the battery temporarily. It wouldn't charge for as long and wouldn't hold as much of a charge, or charge forever but not fill up and die quickly. After a few recharge cycles, things returned to normal but cold does have a strong effect on the battery, though everything else is fine I think.
