I want to do some australian price comparisons

In a few posts people have discussed Hp890s retailing from $30-70$ australian, but i'd like to know where these prices have been sited from. Cause i'd be very interested if i could get them in that price range..

$30 - $70AU is incorrect, it's below the wholesale buy price.

$30-$70US is possible, $150AU (or $75US) is the rrp in Australia. You can pick them up in Malaysia for around $35US iirc, and some stores in Australia have them for around $60US or $120AU.

There have been group buys arranged where the price including freight has been around $95AU or about $47.5US. That's basically wholesale plus freight.

Well, I'm online.. and I can vend you koss and beyer stuff, but there's not much from their range under $200AU that I'd recommend, maybe the Beyer DT231 (about $85AU?) - there's plenty of online Sennheiser vendors in oz, but they all overcharge, and the only closed Sennheisers I'd recommend are above $200AU because of inflated Senny prices in Oz.

Maybe a pair of headphones with similar characteristics as the hp890 but closed maybe highs less harsh, i found them a little shrilly if you know what i mean

Oh, and i wont use an amp now, but probably an upgrade for the future.

Well im getting a pair of the HP890s left over from the group buy for $98

Snufkin, i might be after a pair of closed walking/general outside activity headphones in the near future too. I take it that by what yoiu say you WOULDNT recommended things like the Koss ksc50, the 55 or the 35?

It's the koss closed range that I wouldn't recommend, the 35, 50 and 55 are all open.. but all very, very good value for money

They're fine for outdoor use, unless it's a really noisy environment.

HD600 is retailing for AUD$699 - $799 depending on who you go to. That's way too overpriced.

The only reasonble priced can that I'm aware of is the Grado SR60 for AUD$179.

Now that I'm a whinging mood, Australian hi-fi retail business stinks big time!

enak
HI: You said that you are not going to get an amp and I find that the 890s need lots of power to be at max. The koss 35 are your only choice for great koss earphones or the portapros and dont need an amp. Good luck

LTUCCI1924 you say i need an amp eh?
Hmmm, damn head-fi, i think my pockets got a hole

The hp890 are only 32ohms, so i didn't think they needed an amp, but will intend to get one for the future. I do notice the highs are not as i like them and reproduce classical music unnaturally IMHO. Bass can sometimes be overpowering, but tightish. Well, it was a worthwhile upgrade from $30AU phones i may have to get another

I am on the lookout for closed phones tho
