Hey,

I just brought the first CDP I ever owned out of storage, an Sony CDP-211 and, to be honest, I was shocked by how good it sounds to my ears. Great soundstage and good across the entire spectrum (maybe a little light on bass but not bad). And (this is the thing that shocked me) a good headphone out with a volume control! It's able to drive my HD580s to earsplitting levels and at listening levels there is no distortion that my (admitedly fairly untrained) ears can detect. I mean it sounds good!

As soon as I get some spare time I'll finish my CMoy and try it with that for comparison purposes.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard this model? I recieved it as a gift so I have no idea if where it was in Sony's production line or even what year it was introduced. Anyone have any information for me?

Hmmm... Amazing what a google search will do. I had tried searching for information on altavista but had come up dry.

Anyway, in case anyone is curious:

The CDP-211 was introduced in 1993 and appears to have been towards the middle of the consumer market. Considering that, I'm pretty shocked how good this thing sounds. Ah well, maybe it just goes well with the HD580s.

Anyway, sorry about the rather pointless post.

I have a Sony CDP-397 made in 1992.

I finished my first amp last night (Cmoy), and I can't tell much if any of a difference between it's headphone jack and the Cmoy.

A few weeks ago I took the player to a local hi-fi shop and A/B-ed the headphone jack against a RA-1 they had and couldn't tell a difference either.

Either I don't have the ears for it, or the old sony headphone jacks are that good.

Now I'll have to take the thing apart to look at what kinda circuit they use for the jack.
