I set winamp to mono, hook up my Emagic 2|6, pimeta amp, and Westone UM2 at work. I find stereo to be very distracting at times and when I am trying to focus on my tasks, it does not help. I also can't take variations in L and R channel balance from songs. I like it to be centered. Anyone else likes to listen to mono?

instead of mono, try crossfeed with your stereo setup - you still get rid of the annoying stereo panning thing with older recordings when listening to cans, but there's still enough imaging where you don't feel like you are missing out by going with just mono.

For 99% of my CDs I vastly prefer stereo over mono. I don't even use crossfeed. However, there are some stereo CDs that aren't very well done. Some of them are mostly OK but could be done better - like my Aimee Mann CDs. I still much prefer listening to these CDs in stereo, though. A few are almost unlistenable unless you drop down to mono. The Mamas and the Papas - Greatest Hits CD is a good example of this - almost every intrument and some vocals are placed exclusively in one channel. Very fatiguing! I've read than many other early stereo recodings have this problem too.

However, my ears are very "stereo headphone" friendly so for the most part I don't have issues. Sounds like your ears aren't as forgiving.

I have recently gotten back into headphone listening, and found that I prefer mono as well. Though I have not searched very hard, I have not been able to find a filter that gets rid of the imaging problem that is inherent to headphones. There is one I found and actually purchased (by Waves, as a VST plug-in), but when I try to add it in in Equalizer APO it crashes Equalizer APO

Windows Sonic for Headphones (found in the device properties) is OK, but lately now that my system is sounding so good, I have found that stereo is hard to take while mono really rocks. I'm loving it.

In this screenshot of Equalizer APO, you might notice I have "mono" enabled. Yes, indeed! (Go ahead and call me names; I find mono to be quite pleasing once the sound quality is decent with proper equipment, uncompressed source material, and flat frequency response; stereo to be irritating even with a filter to attempt to smooth out the imaging problem inherent to headphones)

Get two of your own, almost. Note how he took three and tilted them sideways.
