the 570 has all the same features as the 470 PLUS an extra ESP setting (10 sec. uncompressed), an aluminum top, and a different sound - bright, rather than warm like the 470...

I haven't heard the 470, but I wouldn't describe the 570's sound as bright. 'just right' would be more appropriate

It beats the 470 in every other aspect of course, but I can't say anything about the sound (in comparison).

Well....it is bright IN COMPARISON. Or maybe the 470 is dark

Just going on what nearly everyone has said....

Okay, I did some tests on my 570 a few minutes ago.

headphone out vs. line out

Result:
The headphone output is brighter than the lineout + cmoy, and
by more than just a tad. Considering that I seem to be a more analytical listener, I really like this player's treble detail - I'd
say that to my ears it's one of the best headphone outputs.

The line-out plus cmoy is significantly darker/warmer in sound. It sonds good and I like the increased bass tightness, dynamics and punch that I get. But the highs feel a bit muddier. This could be the line-out or the cmoy, dunno. Maybe I should try a different opamp, the 134 is supposed to sound warm after all.
Any suggestions anyone? (wrong forum I guess, but it's not that important)

Well vij, just wanted to keep you informed

Do you mean the one I'm using with my fairly old, tho not ancient, D-121? That came with a Philips PCDP

lol - well, to be honest....I was a SONY ONLY boy for a few years (4-11).

Word association:

Sony: ALL that is good in this world....especially Tape Walkmans

Philips: Screwdriver?

I like the D-EJ01 better than BOTH of those.....tho the 780 I like the least.

Give me a D777 - I'll be just fine with that

Yesterday, I had a D-ej01 in my hands (for the first time).
Wow, this thing is bulky (and heavy) !!
I guess they must make a lot of compromises for this friggin'
slide-in mechanism.

Nah, I prefer the other (flat) sony's. Look much better IMHO.
