Has anyone ever heard of this amp or this company?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

I'm looking for a tube head amp, but this is out of my price range. I want to try tubes on the cheap, I can honestly say I've never heard a tube amplifier before!

Woo audio was under fire by several head-fiers for spelling errors when he first introduced his Woo Audio I (

), but those who have heard them usually report favorable things.

That said, I've never heard one. Try to demo one, if possible.

If you want to try tubes for cheap, try the mg-head otl. You can probably get a used one with upgraded tubes for less than $300.

Uhh, I'm having trouble making the connection.

I was looking at these, but I hear they had quality control issues, people complained of slanted faceplates amongst other things. That and the THD specs for that amp are high (Distortion at 1W < 2%), should I be concerned with this?

Not really. Many don't have the faceplate issues, I guess it depends on which model you get. (I have an older mkI). I have no problems with it whatsoever. I use them with my dt880s. I bought mine used, the previous owner told me it didn't have any issues, and he's right. The only beef I have with it is the gain is kinda high. Also, they're really meant to be used with high-impedance phones, although YMMV. (Considered to pair well with sennheiser phones)

Plus, Joe Lau (of ASL) is a member of this forum, although I don't think he posts much anymore. If you have any questions you should ask him, or someone here with an amp. There a plenty of people here with the mg-head. It's a good starter tube amp (but it needs to be tuberolled to max out potential).

If you buy a used MG Head you can ask all of the questions in advance about assembly quality. My MG Head was quiet and a pleasure to listen to. It is an incredible amp for the money and buying a used on is an even better bargain.

The original owner takes the hit on depreciation. If you get a good deal and some tubes you should be able to sell it for about what you paid for it. Probably the only out of pocket would be shipping fees.

I highly recommend the MG Head as an entry level tube amp.

I bought it with the intention of trying something new. I even wrote a review of it on another thread. After listening to it for a few nights, I noticed there was a crackling sound on the right of my headphones. I doubled checked by hooking up the amp to another source.

After I concluded the amp was defective, I returned it.

The seller told me I damaged it. He told me I should pay for shipping, a 3% paypal fee, and 70 additional dollars for damaging the item.

He offered to pay me $110 dollars less than I paid for it.
I filed a complaint with Paypal and my credit card company to stop payment.
Later he e-mailed me and told me he would send me back all my money minus shipping. I agreed and have been silent about it until now.

I ordered the Meier Prehead with the sale price.
This is a story of woe on woo. (Pardon the pun, I couldn't help myself.)

I was just relating the story of Woo's introduction to head-fi. The rolled eyes were a sign of my displeasure at people ripping on someone's product whose first language is not english for spelling mistakes. I then pointed out that several people have heard the Woo Audio amps and made favorable comments, if you search.

My ASL OTL32 had no quality control issues at all. You can also try to pick up a used Singlepower PPX3 or a used Mad Ear+. (I have not heard the Mad Ear amp) Good luck!

I understood, I just don't understand why people have to find something to pick on, so they guy made a few spelling errors, obviously his talents lie elsewhere!
