Just doing a bit of early xmas shopping and this is an item I need to pick up for a family member who's always fumbling for the cell phone. I can only imagine what they do while on the road. For safety and peace of mind, I'm going to pick up a bluetooth headset for their cell phone. Any suggestions?

plantronics 590 = bluetooth headphones w/ headset, mediocre headphones, great headset for the office

plantronics 640 = bluetooth headset that multi-homes, lets you use it with your computer and cellphone at the same time.

Both have great sound quality (as headsets)

I really like the Nokia BH900...

...Great audio quality (in both directions) and more than respectable standby / talk times

A good resource for BT headsets would be http://www.howardforums.com and then clicking on the Bluetooth section under General Mobile Discussion.

I haven't really been keeping up to date lately, but when I need bluetooth info, I usually start there.

I am using the Plantronics 640 headset which is very handy for in car use. The reason being is becuase of the tube charger base which I have velcroed onto the inside of my glove box, and have a 12v socket in the glovebox which I connect power to the tube charger.

What is good for car use is that I can leave the 640 "on" or basically when it is inside the charger it has a "standby" mode where it won't automatically pair with your phone. This means when I get a call I just take it out the tube and press the action button twice which pairs and answers the call. I do not have to sit there holding down the button to turn it on. With a lot of headsets turning them on can be quite difficult and I do not want to leave them on in the car.

The other headsets that are easy to turn on are the Motorolas with the flip out mike that automatically turns it on when you flip open the mike. Also handy for car use. What I didn't like about the Motorolas is that it is not in-ear so a lot of noise can get through.

I am upgrading to the Plantronics newest 655 with active noise cacellation dsp pretty soon (or as soon as I can get it from my friend who works there).

My top three:

1. V Three BTH8.
Love the full OLED display, shows every bit of info, including Caller ID, battery life, and connection status. Has memory of incoming calls which I can scroll through and dial directly from the phone.
The biggest negative is the built in microphone, it is not the best of quality.

2. Tekkeon ET3000.
The US version of the BTH8 (I imported the BTH8). But it has some quirks that make it inferior to the nearly identical BTH8. For one Tekkeon in their infinite wisdom decided not to include an internal battery, only a ginormous battery ear loop (with the BTH8 I can use both if I want).
Also, the Tekkeon's caller ID scrolls, even though all the numbers are displayed, very annoying, the BTH8 does not do this.
Built in Mic sucks too. I modded it by swapping out the Microphone with an ETY-COM boom mic. Worked awesome until the Tekkeon just stopped working one day. Hence why I bought the BTH8.

3. Sony Ericcson HBH-662.
Longest range of any BT headset I've ever used, and the outgoing sound is still clear even if it is staticy and breaking up on my end when I've reached the outer limits of it's range (a bit more than 10 meters, even through walls!).
Downside is the Caller ID window is tiny, and cannot display all 10 digits of a phone number at once, so it scrolls it. And the battery meter is really inaccurate. Also the speaker part does not get very loud.

If you noticed I really like having a BT headset with Caller ID displays, probably because I have a PDA phone that is a large brick.

I'm considering The Plantronic 640 or the 655. Did a lotta research this past week and they seem to be my best bet. I'm also looking at the Moto H700 since they make my phone as well but it's gotten mixed reviews on CNET soooo.........

do you guys all wear them at all times? I can't say how much that annoys me when you're trying to talk to someone, and they just jump into a conversation on the phone. SO rude!

Am I one of the few who just cant stand these things in general? They just look so freaking stupid! I'll see men out at dinner with their families, wearing it the entire time, and never talk on the phone. How moronic.
