But the point is, I will not buy U2 if it does not sound as good as shuffle, so could someone has it tell me if it could be compared with shuffle?

Regards

since everyone agrees that the 4g sq is garbage, y wont' you just order a 5g ipod from colorwarepc.com and customize the colors to match the 4g u2 ipod?? or buy a 5g and send it to them to have it custom colorized?

I'm a little surprised that the 4G ipod is getting knocked down so much when it was probably the most popular DAP until the 5G came out. I have a 4G ipod u2 and a 1st gen ipod. The first gen has some serious harddrive noise but ipods become popular regardless of that so why is this such an issue? From my 4G ipod, the harddrive noise is only noticable if u really intend to listen and see if its there. You'll find a small whisper which gets buried by your breathing noise anyway. I cant hear it through line out tho.

And besides, I'm beginning to understand that SQ largely depends on what headphones you have more that the DAP itself. The shuffle is not going to do much if you use the included ibuds the headphones have greater influence on what kind of sound you will get. Same thing goes to any DAP. Get any dap you wish but just make sure you have a decent pair of cans.

The 4g is the one Vinnie Rossie mods to bring out the i-mod , which is supposely the best DAP commercially widely available on earth at the moment soundqualitywise.

Well I think the line out is OK, but anything is OK compared to that god awful headphone out. On all the 4G photo models (in addition to HD noise and static) there is a horrible distortion clearly discernable on ALL piano music, and most midrange sound.

Yeah, the 4G iPod U2 isn't that bad! It is nothing compared to my MIA Rio Karma, but that's another story. I was just sitting in the library for 2 hours, and I listened to Beethoven's 9th symphony, and it sounded great! No clipping, no distortion, a nice clean sound, with the equalizer on too. According to iLounge, they think that Apple got rid of the static and HD noise problem for the U2.

My niece has a U2 4G and I don't like it that much at all.
