i must confess to this myself....my current vehicle is swift enough to make it irresistable sometimes...

more later....i'm not necessarily speaking of breaking any speed limits or laws here either by the way.

any stories would be great to hear.

Not a smart move...grow up before you kill yourself or worse, someone else...

One of the worst moments of my life was waiting in a huge line of cars at what I thought was a construction zone. Anyway, when I got to the blockage there was a "riced out" coupe that had struck a girl at a crosswalk. It knocked her right out of her shoes and I saw her flat out on the road with the para-medics working on her. I watched the news that evening and found out she died...

Generally illegal regardless of where you live as there are laws covering street racing in additional to speed limit laws. Not too sure why you think it's legal.

I rarely ever raced cars at a stoplight while riding motorcycles. However, I would take fairly high speed rides at night up a fairly deserted highway.

Why'd you have to announce this on a forum then?

I used to race my 69 Mach 1 a lot! It was really fun!

....but times were different back in 69!

It was even more fun to race my 55 Pontiac on Woodward in 60 & 61 when I was still in high school. Yeah; we'd run from the Totem Pole at the south to Teds at the North and turn around and go back.

"Everybody" checked out their cars on Woodward in those days, even the manufactures had teams out there!

They still have the "Woodward Dream Cruise" of course, but it's not the same.

Well, I quite enjoy putting my foot to the floor and racing to the speed limit (and a teeny bit beyond) as fast as I can. I'm not a big fan of speeding tickets, though, so I always back off once I realize that I'm going too fast.

Of course, my Accord is no sports car, so the whole process isn't exactly what I'd call speedy.

Reality check - if you are american, and really that concerned about death and suffering, with 500,000 tragic AVOIDABLE deaths per year from nicotine and another 500,000 from OBESITY (thats 2700 deaths per day and climbing - CDC) ...spare a thought for them as well as your one off memory. similar stats down here too by the way.

the thread was only in reference to the occasional good spirited legal squirt from the lights

perhaps it doesn't fit with the demographic of this site and thats ok.

A) I'm not American and b) I don't live my life worrying I'm going to die. Just someone who saw first hand what street racing causes. Nicotine and obesity are avoidable because it is your choice to smoke or over eat. When someone races a car down a public road and hits someone, that death is not in the same category as what you mentioned.

"One off memory?" I'm sorry if I find it difficult to forget seeing a 16 year old girl dead on the road. "the occasional good spirited legal squirt from the lights"?

Your thread title calls it a traffic light grand prix. Just out of curiosity how old are you?

I am American and I'm not a smoker, and I'm not obese. But speeding and drunk driving are different: you are putting other people's lives in danger there. Killing someone else because of YOUR vice has got to be the worst way to get a guilty conscious.
