Since I arrived in Iraq smoking the hookah has become a hobby of mine. Every night my buddies, a couple of Iraqis we've befriended and I sit around listening to music, swapping stories, BSing about the days events and enjoy a nice smoke. It's a very relaxing social activity.

We've been experimenting with a variety of shisha and different fills for the base. A current favorite of ours is fruit shisha with sprite in the base. One day we acquired some vodka to fill the base with and we used fruit shisha. We were pretty messed up! Tonight we will be using apple juice with double apple shisha. Does anyone know of some other good combos?

Er, nothing that can be mentioned here.

But I didn't know you could get different experiences changing the liquid in it. I'll definitely give it a try sometime.

And good luck over there.

Dude keep your head sharp and keep the association with the Iraqis on the down low. A couple of Iraqis my brother befriended are dead now for associating with Americans.

On a lighter note, bring a new hookah back home. They sure are handy in parties.

Don't forget the Funyuns®

Do they have Funyuns over there?

I got into smoking hookah while i lived in sweden. It became a reall event on my corridor, everyone would sit round, relax etc etc.

Red wine in the base with strawberry shisha is nice.

Stay away from watermelon shisha, its nasty.

I would think apple juice with double apple will be rather over whelming.

An interesting one might be double apple with bitter lemon drink in the base.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy my second Hookah to bring home when I go on leave. I can't wait to introduce my family and friends to the hookah. They'll probably love it as much as my team does here.

I'll have to find a way to acquire red wine for the hookah! Red wine and strawberry sounds tasty. We don't have access to alcohol here so whenever we do acquire some it's a very rare treat and goes straight into the hookah.

The shisha I currently have is Apple, Cocktail, Menthol, Gum Flavor, Chocolate, Strawberry, Lemon, and Special Grape. One of my Iraqi friends is going to bring over cappuccino flavor. That sounds delicious. I'll have to try the apple with a lemon drink in the base. We have access to plenty of lemons. So that'll be something interesting for tomorrow.

P.S. No funyuns where I'm at. We'd have to have them shipped.

Definitely bad for you, but every once in a while, my friend and I will enjoy a good smoke when the weather is nice outside and we just want to sit out and talk. It's very nice. My personal favorite flavor is mint. We can also enjoy a good mixed fruit or orange. We've tried loads of flavors but those just seem to stick.

If you really want to go nuts, try Mango. That stuff is really strong. Double Apple comes close, but Mango is really crazy for some reason.

Also, be careful, because as we all know, nicotine is highly addictive, one of the most addictive drugs known. The reason you get such a great buzz off hookah is because you're inhaling crap-tons of the stuff. You obviously inhale less tar than cigarettes just because you're not directly inhaling the tobacco smoke as a result of directly combusting it (setting it on fire), but you're still getting tar, and you're still getting plenty of carcinogens. I wouldn't advise smoking it with any kind of real repetition... smoking every day is definitely pushing it. The most I ever smoked was twice in a week once... beyond that, it's usually like once a month or two. I actually haven't smoked in about three months right now and I think it's for the better, although I think I'll enjoy one at the end of the semester.

Anyway, just some tips from someone with experience.

Bicardi in iced water and mint for the mojito. I used to own a hookah, but only used it for social occasions. I sometimes see friends, one of whom now owns my previous. It was nice and didn't get me into smoking, so I'm happy.

My buddies and I aren't to worried about the health factors. The Hookah is one of the many things we smoke. We all smoke cigars and kreteks. Usually we'll have a Cuban after we finish the hookah. We smoke kreteks throughout the day. Out of everything we smoke, we prefer the Hookah the most. It taste and feels better.

Tonight we did strawberry with apple juice and iced water. The second session was with double apple and apple juice. Didn't enjoy the apple juice to much. Not enough smoke and not enough flavor. So tomorrow we are doing Gin and chocolate. Wonder what results that will bring!?

Mr Ninja, have you had the Flamin' Hot Funyuns? They're pretty good, I'm not a fan of the original funyuns though.

back to topic: I was under the thought that the nicotine + lack of oxygen to brain made the buzz? Was the latter part of my beliefe wrong? hope this computer doesn't die...it's getting pretty krazy with the catch up.

My friends and I will go every few months to this place in downtown chicago.

We like the Mango and pineapple is quite nice as well. Try some orange juice or coconut rum with some of the tropical flavors. Occassionally, we go for the tobacco free variety with some of our health-food friends.

My friends and I go to hookah place all the time. Its a great place just to chill out. They have cards, chess and other games. The place we go to is open until like 4am so we often go there after movies or something like that.
