Anyone else think its weird..

I think of closed as being beneficial to those NOT wearing the cans. I mean, an important reason we use closed headsets is so that others cannot hear what is on the other end!

If you're using a headset you're more likely to bother other people with your own talking.

hhhmmmmm....you got a point.

although, i often go into "listen-only" mode for webcasts, conf calls etc.

It's like this: Talk to someone on your telephone with the other ear plugged and press the phone against your ear.

You'll have isolation but can hear your own voice played back through the earphone. This setting can be turned on/off on programs you might be using.

if they were open, wouldn't the sound leaking out of the headset cause interference because the mic is right there?

I've used the cheap undersized headsets, and eventhough they're open, the volume should never be louder than your speaking voice.
