Album Description
Three years ago, Iron And Wine's Sam Beam entertained the idea of recording with Calexico founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino as the backing band for what would have become his debut record. Due to unavoidable situations, that recording didn't happen. Finally, after much acclaim for both bands, recording for "In The Reins" took place in December of 2004. It's a collaborative affair that features seven Sam originals with the backing of the full Calexico band and vocals by Joey Burns. A truly harmonious affair with equal parts Iron and Wine and Calexico to satisfy fans of either or both. These tracks offer something new and exciting beyond what the listener has come to expect from either act.

Funny you mentioned Giant Sand (Great band!), where Joey Burns and John Convertino played together before forming Calexico,
 
I was just listening to Howe Gelb & A Band of Gypsies new album "Alegrias" that contains a new, very different version of "Uneven Light Of Day" .

I was just listening to Howe Gelb & A Band of Gypsies new album "Alegrias" that contains a new, very different version of "Uneven Light Of Day" .

Don't know about that.. Howe Gelb once pulled me on stage (1990-91) to introduce the band (Giant Sand) since I and a friend of mine had been yelling out loud to him (for a while) to introduce the band, the only member's name we didn't know was actually Joey Burns, who had actually just joined them for this tour playing the up-right bass.
 
Well, Howe Gelb then whispered his name in my ear when I was about to introduce him so it all worked out well, but I'm not sure how smart I was that particular evening!
