I just noticed something weird today, maybe i'm just a freak

When i wear my Westone UM2's, I turn into a little oven after awhile. Is this normal? I know your ears have a great deal to do with temperature regulation of the body (at least I though so, maybe I made that up somewhere along the line).

Am i alone here?

Yeah, maybe a little ... but it's nothing compared to around-the-ear headphones (even the comfortable Sennheiser HD555s).

Of course, anything is going to make you feel warm on the Gulf coast of Florida ... and good luck with hurricane season this year.

Weird, i have the opposite effect. I can wear my HD595's for hours and not get hot at all, with my westone UM2's w/ comply tips, i get hot in 20 minutes.

I think it's depend on the outside temp and IEMs goes deep in the ears. If the IEMs sound signature are warm like SF5Pro then it's happen fast. The fullsize headphones sit around the ears and doesn't effect that much. I noticed my IEMs doesn't warm my ears if realy cold outside(walk).

aphexii ... could it be a little bit of a claustrophobia issue, what with something "invasive" in the ear? Or more likely, maybe a touch of allergy to the material in the foamies (if that's what you're using)? Oh, and do you wear the Senns in an air conditioned environment, and the in-ears out and about in the humidity? Or does your music just get you all riled up?

I agree, though, that for whatever reason, in-ears might make a person a little warm.

It took some time, but I have got used to IEM's.

If you think your ears get hot with IEM's try full sized closed headphones with pleather pads for a few hours.
