According to the link above the UM1 seems to be the best all around single driver after the E4c.

As far as I know the old version of the UM1 used to be only as good as the shure E1, but according to westone (http://www.westone.com/music/pr_082505.html), the review above, and the shape of the new UM1, it seems that they have improved the UM1 both shape and sound. Anybody know how it compared against the other single driver phones?

earphonesolutions points out its performance is at the same level as shure e3c.

It must be the best phone at the price range. The ER6i is detailed, but thin sounding, and harsh. The E3c is detailed, dynamic, but has a roll off in the higher treble. This may be like an E3 without the roll off from the info on the web. Similar to how the UM2 compares with the shure E5.

hmm, how much better to you think they are compared to the UE Super.fi 3's?, because I just bought those, and while they do sound great to me, they feel a bit uncomfortable, so if that doesn't change in the next month, I might return them and check out some other phones

I don't know. I have not heard the UM1 nor the superfi, only the E3, ER6i, and ER4. My favorite is the E3. From what I read in earphonesolutions UM1 seems like an E3 without the roll off at the higher treble. As in comparison to the superfi 3, there is not enough info for me to think how they would compare. From what I have read however it seems even the superfi 3s have good soundstage for an IEM. The three canalphones I have tried on the other hand while having good imaging, have a very small, and sometimes congested soundstage.

What's the bass like on super fi. 3's?

I think it's a bit too early to start speculating on how good they sound. We should probably wait until we have actuall first-person accounts of their performance. The specs don't look especially promising, with that 40 Hz - 16 kHz frequency response, but of course Westone would be citing their effective frequency response, not their total potential frequency response within a +/-20 dB limit like consumer product manufacturers do. Or would they?

Anyway, it would be interesting to hear these things. I love my UM2's, and I've finally decided to pull the trigger on the ES2's, so naturally I want to uphold my fanboy Westone > * philosophy and see the UM1's come out on top in the budget IEM department

Catscratch, are you planning to post impressions of the ES2's after you get them? They're on my list but probably not until after the new year (budget a bit constrained by now). I'd like to hear about them. It's really between them and UE-10 Pro but Westone's customer service is friendlier.

Absolutely - but I will not get them for some time yet, probably a month or so. Of course, it all depends on whether or not I have enough patience to wait that long

I will post impressions, but I don't have any other custom-molded canalphones to compare them to.
