Hey Friends:
I see a few of these phonostages up for sale, right in my prospective price range.
The only thing that "concerns" me is that the professional reviews note its characteristic "warmth."
From Michael Fremer's original Stereophile review:
"If you like a tight, snappy sound, the PhD won't be to your liking. But if you like a full, lush presentation, pure as the driven snow and set against ink-black backdrops the likes of which you've never heard, the PhD might be for you..."
Emphasis is mine... And my concern!
So even go as far as to say that without a fast/analytical cartridge, that the overall tonality would be unacceptable.
It would be headed into a primarily tube (modern) system, with "warm" speakers in a lively room.
Does anyone have any opinions or insights?
Thanks
NK
