Are there any good audio retailers in the boston, ma area that stock and display headphones such as grados and AT's and such so that you can try them out?

Yes, two or three. The one in the Garage at Harvard Square, and then that one out by B.U.. Sorry the names are escaping me right now, but if you do a search, you'll find that this thread has happened a couple of times before.

ok ok I was trying to search boston retailer, boston headphones, boston audio and nothing was coming up on the first 3 pages but when I just typed in boston I got this. So I think the retailers you were thinking of were spirit sound and the audio lab. Thanks!

EDIT: awwww darkninja beat me to the names

there you go. happy testing!

they might cut you a bit of a deal, but I don't know if they'll price match. Maybe it's worth paying a little extra considering they've spent the cash to set up a store and let you test various headphones. Otherwise the online stores are just using the brick and mortars for a free testing room.

I do not think so but you may want to call.

I got most of my cans online or through HF.

I was just in Spearit Audio today, auditioning headphones. They have the AKG K701s and lower models on display and the Grado RS-1s and lower models. I was comparing the 701s and the RS-1s.

They didn't have the GS1000 on display, although they had a price sheet on the wall that listed them.

Be sure to take your own CDs when you go, and if you have a pair of headphones that are your current reference, take those, too.

I checked out audio lab's site and they don't sell ultrasones... does spearit audio? are there any places other than those that sell ultrasone? I really want to try out the hfi-780s and proline 750s.

I wanted to revive this old thread as I'm curious about retailers in this area as well. I went to Spearit in Northampton when I was in Western MA but they had almost no headphones out on display, just their speakers. I haven't been to the Comm Ave shop (Green line is so slow and I'm lazy to take the B there) But if they have a setup I'll drag my lazy self there to audition. Anybody been there (or other places) recently?

first post after 3 years? that's gotta be a record. i still haven't found any retailers in the area but i've found a few who deal in high-end transports/dacs and such. i'll have to go by comm ave and check it out again.

sorry to resurrect this thread, but has anyone found any retailers in the boston area that allow you to audition headphones? i tried guitar center on boylston, but they have all their headphones behind the counter and wouldn't even let me touch them unless i was going to buy them.
