Had been using my HD600 with Brockseipier tube amp for quite some time.  Listening to jazz and classical most of the time.  Recently I have been using the phones to listen to movies and felt that this combo is a little 'polite'.  Was wondering what is a good combo (cans and amps) that is about USD 1000 suitable for movies?  Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you want something a little more exaggerated for movies.
 
The Beyer DT990 PRO would fit that bill for nearly a 10th of your budget. Alternative, Phillips Fidelio X1. For closed phones, perhaps the AKG K267 or Denon D600.
 
$1000 headphones are not very exaggerated for film type audio. Stick to mid-fi level headphones and get a fun pair that exaggerates bass and treble a little so it's less polite, and more fun and sharp so movies really pop.
