I've searched the forum and most people seem to be looking for an AMP and seperate DAC or just an AMP. I am hoping that there is an AMP/DAC combo that would pair really well with the Denon D2000s.

As far as a budget, not really sure what I am willing to spend. I will start at 200 - 300 dollars, and move higher if it ends up being necessary.

If it would be a mistake to get a combo i guess i would be willing to suck it up and buy two separate devices, i just like the thought of something all in one because it would be easier to move or take it with me when i go somewhere in which i would possibly use it.

I see a lot of people say that the Head Direct EF 1 works well with the D2000 but that doesn't have a built in DAC i presume.

Also my primary source for now will be a macbook which has the option of both USB and Optical built in.

Thanks!

Just remembered one more thing, i know I've read a lot of people say that the D2000s sound great but that the mids can be a bit recessed, so that may be something to take into consideration.

I use iBasso D2 Boa with my D2000s. Perfect! The iBasso is a good deal too at $169+shipping.

What characteristics does the iBasso add or change about the D2000?

Would an iBasso D4 Mamba or D10 Cobra be any better for the D2000?

Not sure how much better it would be, but the D10 is amazing with the D2000. I also use the D10's DAC alone with the Gilmore Lite amp + DPS and that is one fantastic combo!

Check out the Zhaolu D2.5, Citypulse and the Zero DACs -- All of them, as I recall, have a built-in headphone amp.

The D2000s are not hard to drive, so any of these built-in head amps would be up to snuff. And while I like my dedicated amp just fine, I don't recall hearing a tremendous difference between it and the DAC/Amps I owned previously.

What does the D10 change/improve when paired with the D2000s?

Going from an iPod or computer? Everything. Better bass. Better highs and mid's. Better control, detail and soundstage, to a smaller extent.

I have an iBasso D10 cobra and I run the optical out of my macbook pro and as Sampson Smith says above, it makes everything sound better, more detail, and soundstage. What I'm trying to say is that I have tried other sub 300 dollar dac/amp combos and have not experienced much luck until I tried and bought the iBasso D10 cobra (that's if you want to run optical).

The D10 does come with a toslink cable, but you'll need a mini toslink adaptor to go into you macbook of course. MyCableMart.com is excellent. Good toslink cables (if you want longer) and they'll have good mini toslink adaptors for cheap ($1.29). I've used their toslink cables and adoptors for years and have had no problems.

Also, iBasso ships fast even though it's coming from China. Terrific service and terrific product. I don't know if you are American, but if you are, we are screwed as a country because these Chinese have their acts together and are getting it done. It's a terrific product for the money and you wont be disappointed if you go this route. You will notice the difference and like it. BTW, I have the D5000s, but I don't listen to it as much because I do prefer my Grados over anything else.

Hmmm... not sure. I thought that the D4 ran on a replaceable regular 9V battery. (Not awake enough to check. Where's my coffee...???)
