Any reason to own SR225 and HD595 if RS1's and HD650's are on the way?

Hey guys, I currently have in my possession some SR225's (and K701's), have ordered a pair of HD650's and have a pair of RS-1's lined up. I've also lined up a Gilmore Lite w/ DPS and I was wondering if I get the RS-1's and HD650's is there really any reason to keep the SR225's and get a pair of HD595's? I don't want to own eleventy billion headphones so assure me that the RS-1, HD650, K701 combo will do me nicely

Soundwise, I'd say there's nothing to gain. But maybe you want to have the cheaper cans to take with you on trips, etc. if you don't want to put the expensive ones in harm's way. I wouldn't get them, though.

I own the 225s and the RS-1s simply because I bought the 225s first. For serious listening I use the RS-1s exclusively. My 225s don't get much airtime anymore, but I do use them on ocassion with the computer and with my iPod. I don't really consider the RS-1s portable since I don't want to take a chance on dinging up those beautiful mahogony cups.

I'd say keep your old headphones if you need a spare pair that you don't mind beating up a bit. However, if you're just listening at home I'd sell all the old stuff and look into buying a nice tube amp with the extra cash.

No reason to own 225 when you'll have rs-1 for home applications .
If you want you can try the 225 for portable use .
If you have yet other cans for portable which you like ( comfort , sound etc. ) then sell the 225 .

595 vs 650 is another story ..

Care to explain? Is it worth owning both? what strengths do each have? I'm into rock and metal mostly.

ouch ..
if you're really into rock and metal , my advice would have been to not look into the hd650 .
all that I can hope now is that you like them very much for those genres ( which are also my faves ) on the long run and that your system con provide a decent neutral sound signature to them .

I've been a sennheiserian , tried for 2 years to build up a system around hd650 to please me on long listening session ( rock metal and other ) and did not succeed . Fortunately I stepped in some Grado fine cans ( hp-2 and ps-1 ) which almost cured upgradities for me .

hd595 has a less relaxed presentation , more upfront , and also bit less of bass colour ( a midbass bump that hd650 present and hd595 do not show that much ) ; they're also bright from time to time with some recordings , exp. some 80/90 metal/rock .
all in all hd595 are inferior to hd650 for quite a bunch of reasons , and scale much less then the hd650 on upgrades . but they can please the same , depending on some reasons ..

for more info I suggest you use the search button which provide a number of fabolous headphones wars archives as probably 595 vs 650 has been yet discussed many times . I'm pretty sure you'll find some interesting info in the debates

I could see owning a portable and a house can but more than that? Use the money dumped into extra cans into the source.

That said for rock it depends how you like it. The Senn 650 is my favorite rock can. I have the AKG 701 on route so no comment there but other cans I've owned couldn't de-throne the Senn 650 for rock(Tool, System of a Down, DMB). Sadly the faults of the Grado RS1 were show stoppers for me.

My 701 is Black Dragon recabled so hopefully it can hang with and hopefully resolve some of my issues with the Senn 650.
