well i have a small amount of money to burn and fuel my upgraditius for another few weeks and i was wondering if i should buy a pair of SR60s (i have not owned a Grado ever in my life) or buy a small pocket amp like the Pa2v2 and some cables?

the main use is for the ipod and i listen to everything except for classical and jazz.

so what do you say guys?

try to audition the SR60s. If you like them alot better than the K81DJ, you can always sell it off and switch to SR60s.

IMO, if you really like this hobby, why not save up to get something better and "future-proof"? For example, AKG k701 with a decent amp.

I've been using the K81DJ with the PA2V2 out of a 5G ipod and it sounds surprisingly good IMO. I'd spring for the amp and take it from there.

alright thanx guys currently im loving my AKG, but now that i have had it for awhile id like to try something else or improve my current setup which is just an ipod with the akgs. getting a test run on the sr60s is obviously out of the question since i live in a pretty remote area of the world.

i think im gona vouch for a Pa2v2 and a ALO cable totaling to around $100USD and im hoping this will keep my hands off my wallet for at least a few more month.

also the reason im not saving my money is because if i dont buy something now im gona end up buying other things anyway (eg. car stuff, games, cloths and such)

im not prepared to reach into the high end market yet until im a bit older and get a decent and stable income because honestly here is so much more to life than just head-fi.

The SR60 is a great headphone, but unless you really need another headphone, I'd skip it if you have the 81DJ.

I have the Grado/alessandro MS1 which I have heard can be had cheaper than the sr60 in some parts of the world due to the fre worldwide shipping.

In my opinion the MS1 sounds better than the k81DJ and if that was my only concern I would buy the MS1. Since durability, portability, and sound leakage are all factors the K81DJ have to be considered because they do all of those things way better than the MS1.

I am trying to eliminate some headphones in my collection and it is difficult since they all do something better than the others.

Good luck.

Whoosh,

Buy the amp! Your main reason for upgrading "right now" is to make your portable rig more enjoyable, right? Well, the Grado's won't do that cause they're not portable headphone (oh they;re light enough, nut they are open back and sound pours in and out of them). The amp, on the other hand will make your iPod and K-81DJ's sound a lot nicer (see my tag-line for my portable setup - pretty close huh) and will bring you years of enjoyment.

I also agree with the poster who said it would be a sideways step going from the K-81DJ to SR60. If you're going to upgrade your headphones, and you want something seriously better than the K-81DJ's, then you're looking at something like the AKG K-601 or 701, Sennheiser HD600 or 650, or top-o-the-line beyer/dynamic or (shudder) Grado's. (Maybe you can tell, I'm no fan of Grado sound.)

Anyhow, get the amp - the better quality you can afford the better for your ears - and enjoy your music where ever you want to go in better sound.
